Have they mailed you Swimming With Sharks yet? And The Onion Movie, it's worth the watch in your eyes?

Swimming with Sharks is a great movie. The first time i watched I was a little taken aback by Spacey's character. The second time I thought he was hilarious.

Swimming With Sharks should be here Thursday or Friday.
The Onion movie barely has a plot, but that's not what The Onion movie should be about anyways. The Onion movie delivers in it's satirical exploits which is what it should be watched for anyways. There are several priceless bits that are hilarious beyond anything you could hope to see in most movies. It's a different kind of movie though. There's a classic skit where an African American gentleman comes into a bank w/ a gun and a face cover looking for a 40 hour a week job. He talks to everyone like a gunman would, but he's looking for a job. He gets the job, and continues to come to work with a gun and face mask. Priceless.

Shit, you'll enjoy your weekend watch if it gets there on thursday or friday. And I'll definitely have to check out the Onion movie then. I was unsure about it at first, but it sounds like it'll be up my alley.

Beowulf was by-and-large a gimmick film to showcase "new and exciting film technologies", which will probably go unused because for a CGI based-film, it's still very labour intensive. From my understanding of the extra content, they've just tried to expand on motion capture and CGI methods; wired set pieces and props for the film were all created and filmed with the actors using and interacting with them. Images were then rendered and "animated". While it looks kind of cool for a while, IMO the end result doesn't justify the possible production costs.
After you get past the visuals, you'll find that the screenplay and acting are pretty mediocre. It's sad that the Beowulf poem created the heroic journey archtype, but as a modern epic, it will fall into the oblivion of LotR, CoN, etc. film franchises.

I agree, Charlie Wilson's War is good, and it was short (1.5hours).

I'd also recommend a short new[er] movie with him called The Night Listener. The ending disappointed me, but leading up to it, I was very intrigued and wondering just what the hell was going on.
Inside Man
I don't know if I'm alone on this, but not only did I hate this, but I really don't care for Spike Lee. Other than Malcolm X and He Got Game, I haven't liked a single one of his films.
Sleepers
Powerful, powerful movie. It's come out that a lot of the film is made up (the real Lorenzo Carcaterra maintains it's all real, but not many people believe him anymore) but it's still an incredibly emotional film. The scene with Terry Kinney on the stand is one of the best ever.

I agree about Insomnia being surprisingly good.
I thought Inside Man was meh. I thought the ending was kind of lame.

Why can’t Clint show the world honestly like Spike does, like in "The Inside Man" when the good people are all black and the evil people are all white. Just like in real life. You won't get away with this you White Devils.
|
Have you seen 25th Hour? Probably my favorite Spike Lee movie.
Sleepers for me is in the same category as Requiem for a Dream. I liked them but I don't know if I would watch them again because they are disturbing.

It's not about comparing the two, but being completely engaged by Stellen Skarsgaard's performance, which is superior to Pacino's in every way.

No one is ever better than Pacino! JK, I will probably check this out, now.
I saw Black Snake Moan on Friday and was amazed. Not the best movie I've ever seen or anything, but my expectations were low and it was really good IMO. Samuel L was probably the most subdued I've ever seen him and his performance was better for it.

I didn't care for it. I've only seen it once, though, and even if I dislike a movie, I try to rewatch a few times just to see if my opinion changes over time.
As it stands now, though, I saw it and found myself very uninterested the whole time.

I loved 25th Hour. It goes up on my top 20. Spike Lee is another one that I'm not a fan of as a person, but his movies are very good.

Beowulf is one of those movies where after you see the first few minutes, you know the whole thing is a boring piece of crap.
