Cloverfield

What a piece of flipping horse shit that movie is. All aspects of it suck. It was really lame just following those NY party goers the whole time through that video camera talking about bullshit. You learn nothing about the monster which leaves you unfullilled. The only good few minutes was seeing the monster in action, and even that sucked because you could barely see it.

They did a really good job of marketing it though, with that "what is that destroying the city?" That's really the only way they could market it because when you watch it you still don't know what the hell it is or exactly what it looks like, you don't get your question answered.

If they had put the monster in the 3 minute trailer and showed it destroying the city for a about 10 seconds, then that trailer would basically be a shortened version of the whole movie.

And it's funny how the trailer and commercial said "from producer JJ Abrams". I never knew movies would be really good just from the producer, because the director and writer both suck, and it's not like having a good producer would fix any of that.

I actually enjoyed Cloverfield. I know talking about how I didn't like The Exorcist but did like Cloverfield might start people questioning my sanity, but I found myself enjoying Cloverfield and knowing even as I was watching it in theaters (instrumental in one's appreciation of the movie, IMO) that I knew I was enjoying a film that a lot of people wouldn't enjoy.

I defended it in Blackthorne's review thread and a few other times, if for no other reason because I didn't expect many others to have favorable opinions in regards to the movie. It was by no means a great film, but it was enjoyable for what it was and I was glad I gave it a chance because it was a very entertaining film.

If someone were to call it the film of the year, I'd jump down their throat immediately, but if someone claims it was an entertaining film, I'd agree with them wholeheartedly.

I enjoyed Cloverfield. I thought it had a good idea and good execution. A lot of people were let down by the fact that there was no explanation for what the fuck was going on. I didn't really have a problem with that. If some giant shit attacked Orlando and I was to record it, and someone found the tape there wouldn't be an explanation as to what it was. Same concept here. The Cloverfield movie was a video that someone shot of their final hours while a monster was attacking. I thought it was expertly done.

No Country was a pretentious movie with too many moments of pseudo-profundity.

Had dreams..... The second one, it was like we was both back in older times and I was on horseback goin through the mountains of a night. Goin through this pass in the mountains. It was cold and snowin, hard ridin. Hard country. He rode past me and kept on goin. Never said nothin goin by. He just rode on past and he had his blanket wrapped around him and his head down and when he rode past I seen he was carryin fire in a horn the way people used to do and I could see the horn from the light inside of it. About the color of the moon. And in the dream I knew that he was goin on ahead and that he was fixin to make a fire somewhere out there in all that dark and all that cold, and I knew that whenever I got there he would be there. Out there up ahead.

Cloverfield: 7.5/10
No Country for Old Men: 9.25/10
I Am Legend: 6.5/10

That's how I balance things out. I'm going to see Hancock, and I expect more out of that than I got out of I Am Legend. I like that Will Smith finally got his digs in the superhero genre, and did it in a different way.

Movies I will be seeing in theatres this summer:
Wanted
The Incredible Hulk
The Happening
Hellboy II: The Golden Army
Hancock
Kit Kittredge: An American Girl
The Dark Knight
The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor
The X-Files: I Want to Believe
The Midnight Meat Train

Movies I will NOT be seeing in theatres this summer:
You Don't Mess With The Zohan
The Strangers
The Love Guru
WALL·E
Step Brothers
Meet Dave
Kung Fu Panda
Get Smart
