Rambo to Team Up with Li + The Transporter
6 November 2008 5:35 PM, PST
Action men Sylvester Stallone, Jet Li and Jason Statham are to team up in an explosive new movie.
The tough guy trio will star in The Expendables, based on a ****** penned by Stallone, according to Daily Variety.
Stallone is also slated to direct the film, which follows mercenaries on a mission to overthrow a South American dictator, according to Variety. Shooting is set to begin in February in both Louisiana and Costa Rica.

*I may get massive disrespect for this on a critical level, but I am dying to see this movie. Stallone hasn't been in the directors chair of a bad movie. The inner primitive man in me that bangs rocks, kills animals, loves explosions, and thrives on violence also drives me to this movie. I can't help but think this is going to be a well done movie that will be the cream of the crop in the action movie genre.

That sounds phenomenal, but I take umbrage with this last sentence. It might be better than the current action films, but I'm not even going to pretend it's possible that this film will reach Die Hard/ Lethal Weapon/ Predator greatness.
Weird that Jet Li is going to be in it, though. How are they going to work martial arts into that, if at all?
Great post, though. I hadn't heard about this yet and now I'm very excited.

I remember seeing a trailer for this and thinking it could be good. Not surprised to here the laughs are few and far between, though.
I've got much higher hopes for Role Models (2008). Now if that disappoints, that'll suck.

Pfft, First Blood Part 2 is leagues ahead of Lethal Weapon and Predator, and at least on par with Die Hard.
Predator had most of its action in the first half of the film and then tapered off towards the end.

I love the Rambo films, but the three I listed are in a league of their own.
Predator, like Terminator 2, might have to be disqualified for the sci-fi angle. When it's simply action, it's in the top three, but when it comes to pure action, you can take Predator out and have it as Die Hard> Lethal Weapon>Everything else.
I know Yeahbee disagrees with that order, but it's the truth
And even between the Rambo films, First Blood> First Blood Part II.

Spielberg, Smith in talks for 'Oldboy' - Entertainment News, Film News, Media - Variety
Finally, Hollywood hopefully remaking mediocre movies like this one into good ones. Even if this movie is mediocre in itself, it will be automatically way better than the original if Will Smith screams "AWWW HELL NAW" at the twist ending.
