How is the German one?
Very distressing and sick.
I have to check out the US version.

Thanks for the info. I'm not watching it then.

Yeah everyone I know that saw both preferred the original. German just sounds crueler.

That's what I was getting, too. I think the isolation aspect is what one can draw a correlation to between The Strangers and Vacancy rather than its plot points.

In the end, its just a Hollywood horror that most have come to resent.
All I know is that the trailer was very intriguing and I'm still holding out that it can entertain me

I'd love to say more, but i think you should just watch it. And when you watch it, don't think about whether or not it's good cinema, but rather whether or not its succeeding in making you feel completely awful for certain characters. I believe it'll start airing on Cinemax rather soon, so you won't have to wait long, unless you dont have that channel.
I don't have Cinemax, but even if I did, I probably wouldn't watch it on there because of pan-and-scan.

If I can find it at my library, though, I'll definitely pick it up.

I want to see The Baxter after your mentioning it recently along with Wet Hot American Summer, which I've seen and liked and wasn't aware that the same guys made The Baxter.

Once doesn't appeal to me, though, so it's not a priority, and I thought The Andromeda Strain was a TV show

I don't think I've ever come across thread burnout before

The ending is AWESOME.
Definitely a bad ass ending.

I had my prejudices about The Day The Earth Stood Still but it wasn't all that bad.
The best oldie scifi flick I've seen so far.

The robot had me cracking up a bit but it was 50's, no shame in that.

Does that include Invasion of the Body Snatchers?

That's a very "stagey" film when it comes to dialogue and setting, but its shot and lit brilliantly and that gives it a much more cinematic feel than I think it would've had if someone else other than Hitchcock would've directed it.

I really love that film. So engaging and so well-executed by the Master of Suspense and a great score from Dimitri Tiomkin, who, IMO, is one of the best composers from the classic era.

No. I have seen only the one with Daniel Craig and Nicole Kidman (The Invasion), and it was absolutely a TERRIBLE movie.

Have to get the original.

For me, Invasion of the Body Snatchers is #1 and The Day The Earth Stood Still is #2.

The Blob is #3, but that's just because it's Steve McQueen and it's fun
