Thanks for the props. I'm not always w/ the popular vote. I'll acknowledge when I see a movie that I favored, that others will most likley not be too fond of.

I was a pretty solid fan of the movie Bug, w/ Ashley Judd. I however don't recommend Bug to most people. It's very unusual to say the least. Richard Roeper unappologetically hated it. I gave Bug an 8/10. I definitley don't recommend that people see Bug as a lot of people won't like it. I admired it for what it was able to do to the viewer from an emotional standpoint. I thought the directing was on target by putting the movie in such a remote, lonley place. Here's the review I wrote on it.

Somewhere in a roadside town in rural America lies a town of about 30 where events occur to save the world from certain destruction. The events all occur in a rundown motel room number 7, at the appropriately named the Rustic Motel. The Rustic Motel is reminiscent of the lonely motel in Alfred Hitchcock's classic Psycho. There vacancy sign hanging outside the Rustic Motel is out of commission and it would not be a stretch to assume that the lives of the inhabitants are similarly broken.

Bug only spends the first 20 minutes of its 1 hour and 45 minute run time anywhere outside the motel room, before it takes its audience on a weird, claustrophobic, and all together uncomfortable emotional journey into the lives of 2 individuals who could easily carry their own movie into their pasts.

Agnes White (Ashley Judd) and Peter Evans (Michael Shannon) are two strangers that are both in need of stability in their lives until they find each other. Agnes, a bisexual waitress whose boyfriend has just gotten out of jail, has diluted herself into thinking that she is a completely stable individual despite her crack addiction, and drinking problems. Peter is a war vet who is keyed in on government activity, and really knows what is going on in the world. The two of them are hold up in the motel room for the duration of the movie, while things begin to unravel.

To say this movie is weird would be an understatement. Bug makes the audience members extremely uncomfortable as the situation progresses, and I enjoyed every minute of it. The setting is so closed in that sitting in the seat makes one feel as if the room is closing in around them. The experiences of the characters become the experiences of the viewer, and by the end you are left wondering where you are and what just happened. This foray into the bizarre is expertly done by Exorcist director, William Friedkin, and though this movie is not for everyone, for those who enjoy a taste of the weird, and are looking for something new and original from Hollywood this one is for you.
8/10

If you see it and don't like it, don't blame me. I warned you that you probably wouldn't.

roeper is a turdburgler. i was reading through his top ten lists per year (i don't even know why) and they were hilariously bad. he's like the type of "cinophile" who seriously thinks "forrest gump" was a great movie.

I haven't seen Doomsday, but I plan on purchasing it. The director was the same guy that directed Descent. Doomsday is supposed to be like 80's grindhouse schlock horror. It was also put out by Lionsgate. I'm pretty sure I'll be a fan of Doomsday. I loved Descent. A lot of people take me to task over liking Descent as much as I did. Descent is another movie that I don't recommend to too many people, but I happened to love.

what is wrong with Forrest Gump?

once in a while Hollywood makes great movies

Heat, LA Confidential, Legends of the Fall, Cold Mountain, major productions but solid great movies IMO

im iffy about Bug. movies that revolve around basically one location generally fail in my opinion (phonebooth), but you never know if you like something until you try it.

on that note, M. Night Shyamalans new movie "the happening" looks crazy to say the least. would any of you see it?

I've watched most of Bergman's films, and hated almost every one of them. As a citizen of postmodern times, it is extremely difficult for me to find anything important in the proverbial struggle between faith and desire or faith and reason. I do like two of his films, but their titles escape me at the moment. One is about an artist who slowly goes mad, and the other is about a group of travelling musicians who act very bizarre. These two films are more about sheer nightmarishness and fear, and not as much about faith.
