b) Like them as b movies

Most horror movies just suck, and getting a spooky/scary atmosphere might be the most difficult thing to do.

A few recent ones I've liked
Saw 1 - Acting wasn't amazing by any means, but loved the concept and twist at the end. Not a fan of the others
Sixth Sense - Only M Night movie I liked.
Silent Hill - Didn't scare me, but I just thought it had really good visuals. The nurses were really cool, as was pyramid head.
The Descent - Enjoyed everything but the ending.
The Skeleton Key - I think the ending is what made me like this one. And Kate Hudson... mmmmm
The Mist - Another one I enjoyed, then hated the stupid ending
Dawn of the Dead - One of the few remakes I actually enjoyed. And fast moving zombies ftw
28 Days Later - I liked it until they met up with the soldiers. Everything before that was decent. Wasn't a big fan of the sequel

Ones I haven't liked, or were meh
House of 1000 Corpses - Just people getting tortured for 90 minutes
Halloween Remake - Didn't like Micheal Myers "human" portrayal
Darkness - Had potential, but meh
The Grudge - Hated it. Can't stand Sarah Michelle Giller.
Jeepers Creepers - Crap
The Fog - Crap
Toolbox Murders - Remember it being crap, but don't remember the details.
Scary Mary - Shit
Saw 3 - Stopped going to watch them after this one.
Scream - Not sure if i'd call this recent, but I hated the dialog in it so much that it ruined the movie. "I obviously watch horror movies, so I'm just going to have everyone in the fucking movie talk about them non stoRosp as a way of jerking myself off"
Thirteen Ghosts - Tony Shalhoub and Matthew Lillard shouldn't be in horror movies. Monk and the stoner from hackers ftl.

I'm sure I left a few out. Some are in the middle for me, like The Ring. It's ok, but not a movie I'd say I liked
If you want recent, I'm not really your guy. I think most or all the recent horrors i've seen are absolute shit. I'll just throw out ones that I really like (most are older and you've probably seen em)

The Omen - probably my favorite horror movie. the one with Gregory Peck, not Cotton Weary. The new one is basically a mirror of the first, but lamer. I don't know why they redid it if they weren't going to put anything new on the table
Carrie - i like the horrors with a religious theme.
The Exorcist - same
Poltergeist - only the first one. But the 2nd and 3rd are watchable if you're really bored one day.
Cujo - havent seen it in a LOOOOONG time, but i remember liking it.
The Thing
Cape Fear - either version
Rosemary's Baby
Any of the Alien movies - the 4th is actually pretty good if you havent seen it.
Misery
Wait Until Dark
Christine - super 80s. Not THAT good, but theres a chance you havent seen it, in which case i'll recommend it.

I also secretly love the first 3 Child's Play movies. I was terrified of Chucky as a kid.

I'm guessing you've seen most of them. I'll throw out some of the ones i've seen recently.

The Serpeant and the Rainbow - pretty good. The end was whacky, but everything up til the end was good.

Black Christmas (remake) - typical shitty horror movie in an isolated house with the killer picking each off. Sometimes i feel like watching these, so it might have some value. Tons of hot chicks.

Dead Silent - wanted this to be like Child's Play so bad, but it went quite a different route. Really awful movie.

Land of the Dead - no where near as good as Dawn of the Dead, but watchable.

i actually joined this discussion looking for some good new horrors also, so really, others can probably help you more. If i can think of anything else i'll post it.

also, I have to recommend Killer Clowns from Outer Space. People always seem to love this movie. And there was another one called Klownhouse that made me shit my pants as a kid, but i havent seen it since.

A.I. should've died with Kubrick.

And nice AV change. Brando>Chappelle.

Both are in my top five for horror movies. My favorites are The Shining, Psycho, The Omen, Angel Heart, and Rosemary's Baby.

Don't Look Now just missed the cut.

Very funny movie. The little clown uppercutting the guy's head off is my favorite part.

And then didn't they have guns that shot popcorn?

I decided to leave shining and psycho off cause they were talked about recently. But yeah, we have very similar top 5 horrors then. I didn't see Don't Look Now. thats with Donald Sutherland, right? i'll get around to it eventually.

I've seen all of them besides Rosemary's Baby, Christine, and Wait Until Dark. For me, I'd put The Thing and Poltergeist as the best out of that list, although I haven't seen The Omen or Cape Fear in so long it's hard for me to remember them.

The clown toy in Poltergeist might be the single scariest moment ever for me, when he drags the kid under the bed. Child's play I always thought of as similar to the Puppetmaster movies, which I actually liked more.

Love that one. it scared me as a kid, but now I'd consider it a great b movie.

Here's one I never see any love for that I enjoyed. I really liked Cube. It's basically a group of people who wake up inside individual cube rooms. It's a ton of rooms put together to create a giant cube, and a lot of them have traps. Imagine a movie that is actually good, but with the same over the top deaths as Final Destination.
