And Kevin Spacey wasn't that special, either, IMO. The construction of the end was great, but his performance wasn't this bone-chilling performance some people make it out to be.
Spacey's actual on-camera time is not the center of this great movie. The main qualities of this fim are: 1) the Film Noir atmosphere, Fincher's direction, the frank expression of the subject matter, etc.

It's a marvelous film and the first time my expectations were actually exceeded with a Holocaust films. I'm used to being disappointed (Schindler's List and The Pianist) but this film was so great, especially because it deals with the subject matter from a child's point of view, and I don't know that there's been a Holocaust film that's dealt with the impact the events of that time period had on the kids who watched their siblings and parents and friends get taken away and/or killed..
Good Lord--disappointed with Schindler's List?

That film is absolutely top-ten of all-time IMO!

Also: Montgomery Clift might possibly be the most underrated actor ever. Everybody loves Brando, but anybody who knows classic film knows Clift was Brando before Brando.
I agree with you on Clift--I first noticed him when we watched From Here to Eternity in a HS film class I took.

He was also part of that excellent cast in Judgment at Nuremberg...

You don't have to sell me on the noir atmosphere. However, that's the only part I really liked. I liked the concept (killings based on the seven deadly sins) but I didn't like Morgan Freeman or Brad Pitt very much, I've never liked Gwyneth Paltrow and this film was no exception, and Spacey wasn't in it very much, and when he was in it, he wasn't anything special.

Good movie, but that's as far as I'd go.

I watched it once and I wasn't impressed. Revisiting the film might result in a different opinion, but I don't remember being overly impressed with anything upon my initial viewing, and with a film as lauded as Schindler's List, that's not a good thing.

Have you seen A Place in the Sun? The opening shot of Clift just oozes badassery.

I'd also recommend, if you haven't seen it, Suddenly, Last Summer (1959).

Montgomery Clift, Elizabeth Taylor (in the film with the famous white bikini scene), and Katharine Hepburn (one of my favorite endings to a film, and it's thanks to her eerie performance).

You're sexist aren't you? What about great female actresses that people don't give respect to? You've gotta be kinda ignorant.

Two more reviews.

Untraceable has one of the most intriguing plots that I've seen in recent years. A serial killer hooks up his victims to the internet, and the more hits his site gets, the closer to death the victim gets. It also brings up another issue in the movie, and that is how certain unpleasant videos (such as suicides) are freely accessible over the internet. If you don't expect a masterpiece, this movie's definitely worth a watch.
Untraceable = 7.5/10

I had heard that Hidden Fortress was one of Kurosawa's weaker movies. After viewing it, all I can say is that it's a hidden gem among the legendary Japanese filmmaker's catalogue. It's a film with more light-hearted humor than most Kurosawa films, but is well worth the watch.
Hidden Fortress = 8.5/10

Who told you The Hidden Fortress was a weak movie?

I loved that film. IIRC, that was the first Kurosawa film I watched. I think I watched that, then Seven Samurai, and then Throne of Blood.

I watched Evan Almighty and thought it was very weak. I really enjoyed Bruce Almighty but didn't expect this one to be anywhere near as good.

I was right.
