I watched Empire of the Sun last night. It's a Steven Spielberg movie made in 1987 about a British family separated in China at the start of WWII. It stars Christian Bale, and it's funny to see the future Batman as a child. Also in the movie is the overrated John Malkovich, and someone I didn't expect - Ben Stiller.

As with a lot of Spielberg movies, parts of the movie are brilliantly done, and other parts are boring. The movie was 2 1/2 hours long, and could have easily been cut down by 45 minutes.

Empire of the Sun = 7.5/10. Not something I'd want to watch again.
Was a long time sijnce I saw it but the scene when he is on the birdge and the army is ruling thru underneath him is awesome

He is also in a very famous Swedish chidlrens movie, based on the books by Astrid Lindgren (she is kinda our national saint) Mio Min Mio beatiful fairytale/proto-fantasy

August Rush a real gem of a movie I kidna found it by accident because i was lookign for Robin Williams scenes on youtube.

Beaitful tale about a lost son, music as a natural force. and even the "Felicity" girl in a real acting role.

The first part of the movie was brilliant, you kinda didn't know what was going on until it was obvious. it really struck a chord in me(pun intended) excellent music, you guys were talkign about Hans Zimmer before, well guess who made the music. The music is ever present and you don't fathom how intervined tit is with the story until afterwards.

I think the kid did a marvellous job of portraing the kid who gets swept away by music, Robin Williams didn't do that of a memorable job but the part of the ***in-character didn't demand it, it was solemn Robin with a few outbursts. The Felicity girl does a wonderful job and her transformation is really the main story in the movie.

Very cool views of NY from the eyes of a child. and as I said wonderful music.

I am gonna rewatch this very soon

Quick review: Dazed and Confused
8.5/10

Great movie. The quintessential 70s flick (made in the 90s of course).

Soundtrack is epic as well.

I've always found that to be an overrated film. By no means is it bad, but I've watched it three times and never been blown away like so many other people have.

And Kevin Spacey wasn't that special, either, IMO. The construction of the end was great, but his performance wasn't this bone-chilling performance some people make it out to be.

And I watched Fred Zinneman's (Day of the Jackal) 1948 Holocaust film The Search (1948)

The film starred Montgomery Clift as a G.I. who comes across a hungry child. He gives him his sandwich and then takes him back to his place and tries to find out who the kid is, where he came from, and if he has any family.

It's a marvelous film and the first time my expectations were actually exceeded with a Holocaust films. I'm used to being disappointed (Schindler's List and The Pianist) but this film was so great, especially because it deals with the subject matter from a child's point of view, and I don't know that there's been a Holocaust film that's dealt with the impact the events of that time period had on the kids who watched their siblings and parents and friends get taken away and/or killed.

Highly recommend it.

Also: Montgomery Clift might possibly be the most underrated actor ever. Everybody loves Brando, but anybody who knows classic film knows Clift was Brando before Brando.
