I kinda think that was the point they were trying to make with this movie...

yeah he was made to be likable at first, when he murdered that old woman though i immediately despised him, i'll never forget that image of him choking her with that wire or rope or whatever it was while her false teeth came out, fucking hardcore.

Is that seriously what you got from that? He's just saying how he's sick of seeing people who have never seen a movie made before 1985 go on to claim American Psycho and Boondock Saints are the greatest movies ever made.

Not only that, but some people seem like they're programmed to say what a good movie is based upon what they've "heard" other people say. You'd be suprised at how many people I know who claim that the Godfather is the greatest film ever made, yet they haven't even seen it.

Ugh, there are a lot of serious movies that I like but....
I'm actually a huge fan of Transformers and actually think Shia Lebouf is a good actor and has a pretty good future in the movie business.
Guess I'll sit this thread out.

What about "Battle Royale"? Foreign movie yes, but any movie that has teenagers killing each other for survival is awesome in my book.

Fight Club is one of those movies that people like without understanding what the movie was about. However, people also hate the movie for the same reason. If you didn't understand it and didn't like it, that's fine the movie wasn't for you. I actually had my girlfriend ask me, "I don't get it, was Brad Pitt like an alien or something."
If you liked Fight Club but didn't really get it, that's fine too. I have yet to meet someone who understood the movie but didn't like it.

Okay, I signed up just for this thread... let's get the show rolling.
Just browsed the last page:
Battle Royale wasn't BAD, but I don't think it was necessarily a good movie. It was mainly a foreign flick that got mainstream acknowledgment from people who "think" they're indie and foreign. That's not pointing any fingers at people, and I'm sure you would've enjoyed the flick if you'd seen it before all of the hype, but I think it's safe to say that you wouldn't have.
Fight Club, as a movie, is better than most. The story isn't insanely original, but it's not a direct copycat in many senses. I really like Fincher's cinematic narrative with the long shots contrasted by erradic action, and I'm disappointed that it didn't boost Norton's career more than it did (is it me or is he a really good actor that gets mainly garbage roles and turns them into something decent, usually).
For my discussion, I'll ask you guys about southland tales. Sure it has The Rock and Justin Timberlake, but I absolutely loved it as Kelly's followup to Donnie Darko (which again, was good but not amazing).
As for my personal favorite movies, I'll throw American Psycho out, only for personal reasons. For best movie, I kind of like to nominate videodrome, and Citizen Kane, mainly because of the challenges that Welles faced in order to make a movie so ahead of its time. I didn't really agree with many people about this flick until I learned a pretty good amount of Hollywood history, and I think that a lot of people give this movie too much credit for the wrong reasons.
I like to think I know movies, but probably know very little compared to you schlumps. Flame on!
