Jack Black is a bit overrated. I thought it was hilarious when he walked out in his underwear in Orange County, but other than that, I haven't found him funny. Some of my friends are really into his music and think it's hilarious, but I don't think it's any good. In his defense, the role he was asked to play in Tropic Thunder was just garbage and could have easily been removed from the movie without affecting the story in the least bit.

I thought he had some funny parts in Cable Guy (Jim Carry boosting off him for the dunk is great), which I think people bash a little bit too much. Jack Black for me is just funny in small doses, and shouldn't have ever been built up the way he was. Supporting roles at best.
Jack Black would be great if he had the same typical screen time in a movie as Clint Howard

Correct.
He has done well in some leading roles but he's a bit overbearing.

Speaking of which, I've been watching season 4 of the Simpsons. Man is the quality of those episodes fucking light years ahead of what is on today. Simpsons in it's prime was fucking awesome, and neither Family Guy or Southpark have been, nor will they ever be, on the same level.
EDIT: It is much more well written and feels like a real show.
