Step Up
this movie surprised me. at first i just switched to the channel while i continued searching for something good to watch, or so i thought. listening to it for those few minutes got my attention and i ended up watching the entire thing.
it's a surprise to me b/c i didn't think it'd be good at all. to me the movie is similar to fight club, in the respect that it's not about dancing really, just as fight club wasn't really about fighting.

Just watched Before the Devil knows you're dead for the second time today. Easily could have won best picture for 2007/2008 if it wasn't independently distributed.
Sidney Lumet directs; Phillip Seymour Hoffman and Ethan Hawke act (very well), and we get a good serving of nice hot titties mixed into an otherwise greek tragedy from Marisa Tomei Marisa Tomei.
Don't read previews/reviews if you want a cool bit of plot twist spoiled (a main dramatic catalyst). Take my word for it, if you can handle a greek tragedy mixed with a crime heist movie just go out and watch it without reading the back cover because it will give away info that isn't supposed to be backstory, and instead revealed through the movie.

How so?
It got very little theatre space when it first came out, and the screenwriter had never written a feature film before. Was the best new release of the past year for me.

to me it seemed like a bad crime show episode dragged out too long

IKIRU is slowly paced. It is also moving as hell.
See what I did there. Further, I wish television employed more of Kurosawa's style of composition. He absolutely illustrates his stories down to the finest detail.

I disagree; in fact the representation of the police and the unique method of integrating a investigator into the crime aspect is pretty neat in my book and only heightens the complexity of the family turmoil.

BTDKYD Is a movie I fully intend on seeing relatively soon. It's supposedly a very very good movie.
