Not yet. I am thinking about buying one though. That $400 ps3 sounds like a nice deal hardware-wise, but I'm just worried that there isn't enough developer support to warrant buying it. They should've used that price point at the start.

Its obvious the PS3 is not doing as well as sony wanted but people are forgeting sony is fighting to wars with the PS3, the console war and the format war which they are winning with Blu-ray. You can lose the console war and still be sucessful like nintendo with the N64 and GC, Sony made alot of money on PSX and PS2 so the playstation brand is still very sucessful.

All that + 60 gigs of space + backwards compatability + best BluRay (dominant media format) + awesome online = X-Box is craptastic.

Speaking in an interview with Next-Gen.biz, Newell said that while he expects gamers will be happy with the PlayStation 3 version of the Orange Box being developed by an EA-led team, "I think it's harder to get it to the same standard as the 360 and PC versions."

Newell stood by comments he made earlier in the year, in which he called the PlayStation 3 a "disaster" and suggested Sony should cancel the entire project and start over. "I think (PlayStation 3 is) a waste of everybody's time," he said. "Investing in the Cell, investing in the SPE gives you no long-term benefits. There's nothing there that you're going to apply to anything else. You're not going to gain anything except a hatred of the architecture they've created."

"I don't think they're going to make money off their box," he added. "I don't think it's a good solution."

Newell also took the opportunity to discuss his thoughts on Microsoft's direction with the Xbox 360, standalone physics cards and the future of Steam. The full text of the interview is available here. Valve's Orange Box, featuring the Half-Life 2 collection, Team Fortress 2 and Portal, is now available via Steam and regular retail outlets.

I love Valve, but it will be another 5-6 years before another valve game is released on console so what he says really dosent matter, plus a developer can dislike the system but as long as they are releasing games for it what does it matter

The format war is still a huge misconception, as there are two sides to the war: hardware (HD/BR players) and software (dvds). Currently, HD-DVD players are outselling Blu-Ray players, while Blu-Ray is selling more software. It will be interesting to see how it all plays out, with the recent upping of HD-DVD supported studios being 12 and Blu-Ray only being 8.

Honestly, though, I could give a shit. I'm not budging on the new software for a long while. Why do I want to have half a library of Blu-Ray and half a library of HD, one player each to support them and pay $10 more for dvds than I currently have to? Luh-ame.
