Car damage and insurance advice...

I just scraped the entire right side of my dad's minivan. He's pissed, I'm stupid, and I want to take care of it, but I'm a total noob when it comes to insurance and the like.

For something like this, do I just go to an autobody shop and give them my dad's insurance? Or do I call up the insurance company?

Would there be an increase in monthly rates if I called the insurance company? Would I be better off just paying out of pocket for the repairs?

I would get an estimate from a body shop and go from there. I think the insurance going up will depend upon if it's covered under "collision" or under "comprehensive" or whatever they call it nowadays. I hit a car, it went up. I hit a deer, it didn't go up even thought it was the same $$$ amount of damange. Eh I would call the insurance company, see if you can get an adjuster to look at it and ask him about the rates and which way will be cheaper....then go from there...lol Also...see if they need a police report or not. You might have to go to a police station and file a report in order to get covered....I guess just call the company and see what they need. good luck

Only scraping the side of the fan will cost a couple of hundred dollars tops. Your rate going up indefinitly will certainly cost more, plus the mark on your driving record forever. I'd be gettin her painted out of pocket.

I can tell you right now how much your lookin at if you post some pics of the damage. It's what I was doing for a living before I took my vacation. Usually you go to at least three Body shops and they find out the average damage of the collision by evaluating the three. Make sure you go to a legit place. Some places will have your car for 4 months and won't even touch it. That's unprofessional.
