Salary and Self Worth

Just curious what everyone in the Mayberry Forum is compensated for their contribution to society and how it makes you feel about yourself.

I'm a lawyer, so obviously I make alot of money. Personally, each dollar I make increases my self worth exponentially.

Your thoughts?

im a poor soldier with a lot of self worth. the only thing you need to keep your self happy in life I have learned, is to keep growing as a person. Keep setting goals. That is the secret to happiness.

I work for a title company. I make about median income for someone my age (26), but it's high for the area I live in. I only work 35 hours a week and we are very slow right now (obviously). I could try to get philosophical and say that I help people realize their dreams of home ownership, but my job is really just a necessity for the homeownership/refinance process. I do know we help explain things to people that they will use for the rest of their life. I'm very surprised at how ignorant some people are about home ownership.
Anyways, how much money I make has nothing to do with how I feel about myself. A lot of people are working 60 hour weeks making 75k and thinking they are hot shit. They fail to think that they aren't making much over $20 an hour. Free time to do the things that help me enjoy life show my self worth.

Nurses don't make as much as we should for what we do.

Really?

My doctor friend from the yacht club seems to think otherwise. He says the majority of the nurses (and murses) he works with add onto his workload, refusing to put in Foleys, taking forever to submit orders, and second-guessing him behind his back in front of his patients.

Not saying you do this, but he seems to think most doctors could do without nurses in general.

As far as I can tell, I don't contribute anything to society with my work, but rather to enrich a small group of people (not including myself unfortunately).

How much I make at my job has no bearing on how I feel about myself. I see employment as nothing more than a mean to an end (aka, retirement).

As of right now, I'm not being compensated fairly (IMO) for my experience and my skillset, but as the days go by and my reputation becomes established, my compensation will increase. Though it is somewhat depressing knowing that my arrival to the company has led to 1 person leaving (who beat the company to the punch by resigning before they could fire him), and another person who's job is also now in jeopardy.

Ha! Doctors do without nurses? First of all I don't know where your friend works but in my hospital the doctors are the ones who put the orders in not the nurses. Secondly I would LOVE to see a doctor go in a room and change a 60 year old man who crapped his pants. Most doctors realize how important nurses are and how they wouldn't make it without us either your friend has dealt with some shitty nurses or he is the typical asshole doctor who thinks everyone is below him and he could do anyones job because he has MD after his name.
