I have sailed on a monohulled (single hull) sailboat from Kona to Long Beach, California. That is where I realized that long range sailing was not for me. Going out for the day or even a weekend is wonderful but anything more than that will make even the strongest stomach divulge its darkest secrets.
Catamarans are way more stable and because they are wider you don't rub up on or crash into everybody over and over. Believe me that after a couple days of bumping into the same people in such tight quarters will test your patience and temper.
I have a powerboat at the moment. It is definately nothing special but it is the best I can afford. A boat no matter how big or small is nothing more than a huge hole in the water that sucks money out of your wallet. There is an old saying about boats. It goes as follows:
The happiest day in a man's life
is the day he buys his first boat
The second happiest day in that same man's life
Is the day he sells it
