Rob Zombie's Halloween - A Huge Disappointment
I don't go to the movies much but when I saw the trailers for this one I just had to check it out. I love horror movies, especially older ones. I grew up with Michael Myers and in general I'm a fan of Rob Zombie so that was enough to get me out of the house and pay the ten bucks. But what a mistake that was.
The problem with Rob Zombie is that he sucks at writing a screenplay. One thing about making a good movie is if you do not have a good screenplay you will not have a good movie no matter what. However if you have a great screenplay with shitty acting and directing, the movie will probably turn out just fine. Apparently Zombie fails to comprehend this. The dialog in this movie, and his others, is so mind-numbingly dull and unsophisticated its comical. I can't imagine this is what he is going for. His attempt at developing Myers's character failed miserably and I didn't even know who the victims were most of the time.
The directing and camera work wasn't that bad. The murder scenes were disappointing though. Nothing very creative or graphic at all. He should have ripped off some of Jason's moves from Friday the 13th. He was always a crafty killer looking to spice things up. I remember one time he chased some stupid girl through a forest with a weed wacker.
Since this post is getting too long I will just say that this movie is hardly worth seeing and Zombie needs to either have other people write his movies for him or just go back to what he does best - music.

Considering the original movie doesn't have graphic gore in it, I didn't expect this one to either. It did have a lot more graphic kills and Michael hasn't really been creative in other films, why would you expect creative kills in this one. I like the straight forward "I'm gonna kill you" type thing. All in all it was a good movie and I will prob DL or buy it.

I also have to disagree with you. Going to see haloween and expecting to see alot of gore was a mistake, sorry about that. Also I felt that Zombie's development of Michael from a child was done fairly well. It's seems to me that you might be a traditionalist and won't really like any new version Haloween, no offense.

I didn't necessarily expect graphic kills but it was easy to tell that Zombie was trying for it. Stabbing the nurse with the fork, thumbs in the eye, nailing the guy to the wall with a knife, how many people got strangled? This stuff is uncreative and he could have done much better.
I know the original Halloween was a linear film with little character development on Michael's part but thats not what Zombie was going for. He was trying for more. One thing I liked about the original was that Myers was a complete mystery. He never speaks a single word. The character development is on the end of the family and friends. Thats why the original worked so well.
Showing Myers as some pussy kid killing hamsters and getting picked on in school just ruins it for me. And the dialog between him and his family was so poorly written I question how it ever made it past the producers.

Yeah, I'd disagree too but I already knew what to expect after listening to him talk about it on NPR not too long ago he was a guest on Dr. Drew's show Loveline.
EDIT: FYI, you should probably find the episode & listen to it, Drew & Rob go back & forth about it... basically they were both happy with the outcome. Rob said he wanted to create a smart movie creating a back story for what he became, Drew liked it because he said it was pretty text book for a serial killer's childhood. I got the impression they were going for more of a smart film with a realistic edge...

Gore has been done. If you want gore go watch the abortion of a film called hostel.
Zombie did a great job showing the back story. The first half was great.
