Road trip suggestions

What's up everybody, my girlfriend and I want to go on a road trip before we start school again in about 6 weeks and I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on where we should go. I live in the bay area in California and we were thinking about driving to Canada, or another state that is somewhat close to Cali. Any suggestions on a location and some possible landmarks/sites we could see there and/or on the way there ?? Any ideas are appreciated. Thanks.

If you are in nor cal, you should consider traveling west into Nevada, Idaho, Colorado, and Utah. I just drove through Nevada and Idaho and it was great. Incredibly vast and beautiful. If you want to be out in the middle of nowhere and visit some pretty cool small towns then consider it. Millions of places to camp out too.

We considered going to all of those places. Would you recommend one over all the rest ??
