Recommend me a good HD TV
Ok, here goes. I'm still in the Stone Age when it comes to my TV set. The time has come for me to leap into modernity and upgrade that crap.
What do you recommend? I'm willing to spend 1-2 K (without the accessories).
I don't need a giant set (something around 40' would be enough).
Two questions:
1. Heard that Sony HD sets are longer top notch and have had a bad record lately.
2. Am I better to get a TV set with 3 HDMI ports or will I be ok with 2?
Fire away.

For 2K you can get a decent 40' tv. I have an LG and have had no problems in about two years. And i would go with 3 ports, but two would be fine. Not too much info but hopefully it may help a little.

No no, thanks for the info. I have been looking at the LGs a lot and from I've heard they are pretty decent.

Yeah they get a great picture. LG as a whole has came far from the early day. All there home appliences are top notch so Im sure they dont lack in the TV Dept. Also check out Samsungs, they have great reviews. I would reccomend the Sony Wega but they may be a little pricey

You sound like you don't want to do it, but the system is designed a certain way that if you are willing to go 40, there really is no reason not to go to 46 or 50.
People just aren't willing to pay much more after it hits the 40 inch TV, so the marginal cost for inches goes down. It really forces them to give you a pretty good deal when you get to the 45-55 range.
Samsung are pretty top notch unless you are getting a custom home theater system.
Just whatever you do, get insurance on it if you buy it from best buy.
You might also want to look for some great deals on Open Box'd TVs. These are TVs that were returned or, maybe even just used to be display versions, so their box is open. Getting one of these can save you a couple hundred.

you need to decide on which picture looks the best - DLP, LCD or Plasma
this was the first thing I did when purchasing my 65 inch Mitsubishi DLP

Yeah Best Buy always has some good deals on open items that are pretty legit.

I just picked up a 46 inch Sharp Aquos not too long ago. http://www.sharpusa.com/products/Mod...8,1745,00.html
Let me say that I love this TV for it's High Definition Capabilities...with that you had to take into consideration that the majority of your regular channels are still broadcast in 480i/p Resolution. So anytime your watching your regular local channels...your picture is going to suck big time. This is true with most HDTV's.
My advice to you is do your research..see what you really want, need, and obviously can afford. Best of luck in your investment.

65 inches??? Jesus, I can just imagine playing a few consoles games on that (4 player games with each his own TV!), or just watching porn.

Thanks for the info. If the price difference if ok, I might look into bigger than 40 inches. Space is also a concern though since this is apartment-based, at least for a year or two.
