Quick Military question.

Okay so I'm about to graduate HS and was hoping to join the army ( seeing as I already have extended family in it). All was good and fine until I was told by my brother I might not be able to join because of some crap when I was 14. My cousin died and they put me on Zoloft and Ambien for depression/anxiety. I was only on the crap for less then three months. I got cleared by a counselor after the school "recommended " I see one. She said it was normal grieving/I was very opinionated. So now here I am a few years later and talk about a fucking buzz kill once I heard this. I have wanted to be in the airforce or army since I was 9. So my question is am I screwed? Should I just lie say I forgot all about it if the find out I guess worst come the worst I gotta go to collage
Thank for the help

p.s. Didn't feel like making an account on the army website so just decided to post on sherdog

That shouldn't be a problem at all. I had a similar experience in high school. I told the recruiter, and he said they mainly only care about clinical depression and people that had been institutionalized for trying to kill themselves, etc. Taking some antidepressants by your own free will after your friend died shouldn't affect your enlistment at all.

The recruiters won't give a shit. Why the army though? There are better branches such as the air force, and the air force. Did I mention the air force? lol.

My personal opinion is don't get dragged into the military. Instead, go to a local community college and work on a vocational degree. If you aren't that rich the government will pay for most of your tuition if not all of it.

You can come out with a degree in 2-3 years and start a technical job where you can earn way more than you ever will in the army.

Just think about it. The army sounds like an easy way to earn some cash and do something with your life, but there are WAY more better options.

Well in 1993 I was turned down by the Marines because I had Chronic Eczema.

But this was during Clinton's "Downsizing" mandate of Defense Recrutiment.

Didnt prevent me from joining the police force though.

Hope things work out for you if you truly want to join. Kudos to you.

They cannot find out about it. No worries, don't even bring it up. They do not get access to your preenlistment medical records.

Anybody who tells you different is talking out of their butt.
