Questoin for lawyers or policemen

Basically it goes like this, i recieved a 400 dollar disorderly last month, which was pretty much bullshit for me being in the wrong place at the wrong time. So i plea not guilty and was supposed to have my hearing today. My sole purpose was to just get the fine reduced. Upon getting to court, they say the presiding officer is on a drug case and cannot make it to the court hearing. Normally, i would assume this means the charges were dropped. However, the magistrate decided to continue the case at another date. Now, i told him that i had taken off work and that it is money out of my pocket, and he pretty much said whateva the fuck eva.

So my questoin is, can he do that without giving me any prior notice? Because to me that is bullshit, taking off work and losing pay only to have them NOT EVEN HEAR my case.

I think they can do pretty much whatever the hell they want, but I'm not a police officer or a lawyer.

Anyway, my guess is you really did deserve your 400 dollar disorderly. I've seen so many people get in trouble at one time or another and it is so funny that everyone of them always says, "It was BS, I didn't deserve it, the cop was just being a jerk." Just fess up, you were disorderly and as the law goes you got fined for it.

No really, i wasnt disorderly. Thanks for questioning my honesty though douche. I was at a party, i had a few beers, was not drunk, was preparing to leave, going down the steps with my friend who hadnt drank at all and was going to take me home just as the cops come up to the steps and tell me to go inside, which i complied. They then breathalized me and i blew a .1. So many people ran away and i didnt. So do i deserve a 400 dollar fine for blowin a .1 and not doing anything rowdy at all (though apparently there were people carryin on in the street). Im not tryin to get the charges dropped, just the fine reduced cuz 400 bucks is pretty ridiculous for that. So to you who judged me, you can suck my dick.

Anyways, i went there this morning for my hearing and they were like cop cant make it today, which usualy results in the case getting dismissed but the judge chose to opt for another date, when i very nicely explained to him that i had taken off work and lost a days pay for this.... fuuuuuuck that shit.

PA has a 0 tolerance policy if you are underage. Doesn't matter if you blew a .10 or .001, it is illegal and you will be punished. I think you are getting off easy with a $400 fine compared to some things they could do.

you should've had a lawyer with you. he would've requested the judge to motion to dismiss case for lack of prosecution.

Even if you deserved it, you have a legitimate -- if ultimately not economically feasible --beef for what happened. I really do hate to say this, because I think its fucked up, but you should have gotten a lawyer to represent you...

In any event, its not the end of the world, my friend. Just keep your nose clean from here on out and you should be fine. I've had a similar experience and gone on to pass the bar exam and clerk (act as research/opinion writer) for the Chief Justice of a state supreme court. So as long as you keep yourself out of trouble in the future, you'll be fine. Good luck.
