Strangely I had this very discussion with a girl friend of mine recently and honestly, I can only tell if a guy is really ugly. I can't tell the difference between average and attractive dudes

beauty is pretty much straight forward. if you can discern between a beautiful face, and an ugly face, sex should not be a barrier. good thing your boyfriend isn't working as a male fashion & modelling agent.

any guy that says he can't tell is just uncomfortable about it, maybe he thinks if he states openly that guy A is better looking than guy B he will come off as being gay? most straight guys do anything and everything to ensure no one thinks they are gay.

i am male and straight as a ruler, yet i have no problems telling between an average looking male face and or physique and a beautiful, handsome one.

something thats strange though is why you would confront your boyfriend with such a question? surely you know if a man asks his girlfriend or wife to rate other women he will be heading for a heap of trouble. so why would you ask him that about other men? if you were my girlfriend i would probable start wondering why you are interested in other dudes.

also: think about how every male hollywood studio exec would function if they suddenly could not tell the difference between one mans headshot and another? all of sudden the leading male actors in hollywood would all be zitty, big nose, small chin, balding men with missing eyebrows and scars ... clearly males can tell the difference.

I definitely agree with the poster that stated that these are set by womens standards.
Me and my friends are really comfortable about our sexuality and have discussed this and realised that until a girl says a particular guy is attractive, the most hell get is " o, hes average".
