People suck. Edit: (Get on a treadmill and) Deal with it.

+1. Just because I would have millions doesn't mean I would become a social retard.
But yeah, I would choose the gas station option with happiness.

Life really is all about money. It boils down to freedoms, and money buys you that freedom.
Think of it as whoring yourself out to society for 40-60 years, then reaping those rewards for 10-20, then dying.

This question is stupid.
Why would I as a person, be happy working at a gas station, yet cease to be happy when rich?

Gas station man for sure. I grew up as a pretty happy kid and was very happy for a while in undergrad university. I crashed big-time from that high for a few years. During that span I was fortunate (in some ways) to inherit a good chunk of money. The money had pretty much zero impact on my happiness.

If thats the case than why do so many ludicrously rich folks get very depressed and end up messed up on drugs and alcohol. Surely if your paradigm was accurate, that would never happen.
What I think is, those people have been sold a dream and they realised when they got it that it was a sham. Money =/= happiness.

That tends to be rich folk that have never known what it is to be poor; Spoiled kids who inherit money, child actors, etc. If I were to receive a million dollars, there's no way that would make me unhappy. I've had some really shitty jobs. I actually had some great times working in low level, laboring work. You seem to find a lot of characters in those types of jobs. I've also had some good times working in office jobs. You have to make the most of what you have. If I had a million dollars, doesn't mean I'd start sniffing the nose candy and wasting it all away on prostitutes. Working at a gas station vs. getting a million dollars? No brainer, million bucks all the way. Money doesn't make a person. We are who we are.
