A question was asked...

It went something like this. Actually, it went exactly like this.

My friend asked me a question that I thought would have everyone answering the same way.

The question?

"Would you rather be a millionare with a so/so life or be happy and work at a gas station for the rest of your life?"

I, assuming it was a joke, answered that I would obviously rather work at the gas station, because what is one million dollars if you can't buy yourself happiness?

I was shocked as the cold grip of money drew many a listener in. Around half of the people answering (out of an eventual thirty or forty. wasn't counting) said they would rather have the millions.

What is life without happiness? Is not every action we take meant to make us happier? When it comes down to it, every single thing we do is for the eventual feel goods, whether it be a CEO making millions off of other peoples ignorance or helping the poor.

Just a thought. Enlighten me

For some money is happiness incarnate, although from what Ive seen it tends to be people who don't have much who believe that.

Gas station all the way for me, buying stuff has never done it for me, more to life than things.

Agreed. I'm a student now and hope to maintain a steady job eventually, but I would rather work a modest job with close friends and great hobbies (fighting etc.).

I feel much better when I earn things than when they are given to me

I just couldn't imagine myself not happy with millions of dollars though.

Its mostly the marketing illusion that money = happiness. Its an old old chestnut and has been discussed to death by 13-90 year olds everywhere, some will always like the options given one by huge wealth and will work endlessly to try and get this, others are happy with their lot.
