Question about immigrating to Europe or Canada

What's up everyone, I was wondering if anyone knows anything about how difficult it would be for an American to immigrate to Canada or somewhere in western/northern Europe. I am talking how long would it take to be allowed to move there, is it a difficult process, etc. Any insight would be very much appreciated. Thanks.

I don't have firsthand experience, but since the question was pretty open-ended I think the general answer is that the key is getting a Work Visa. This will allow you a lengthy or unlimited stay in the country. Just like in the U.S. the desire is to have people immigrate who will contribute rather than drag on the economy. If you just get off a plane somewhere they will let you in if you're from the States, but officially you shouldn't be there past a short period of time (like 60 or 90 days) unless you have a Visa for working there, although I don't think they'll enforce it except perhaps when you apply for certain jobs or try to fly out.

Get a job in europe and you´re set, obtaining citizenship for an american is easy from there on. Start with britain, they are looking for workers and you know the language already.

In Canada you can get a 6 month visitors permit at which time you'll have all the opportunity in the world to get permenant residence status and find a job =]

Try contacting your embassy or Dept of Immigration. i'm sure they'll be more helpfull. Have you visited any of the places you want to move to? I live in Ontario and have travelled all over Canada so if you have any questions about other stuff let me know.

It's just paperwork, my girlfriend will be moving here in August from the states, it won't be a problem for us at all. Canada is very easy to immigrate to especially if you are educated.
