I just saw a special on the Garden of Eden a about a month ago. It was on A & E or History International. The experts they had on purposed a new theory. First off, most Christians that I know think of the Garden as a real, physical place. Of course I can't speak for everyone. At any rate, the special program I was talking about purposed the theory that the Garden of Eden was a real, physical place. Using the scripture as geographical reference and a geographical model simulation, they discovered that the physical location, as described in the Bible, puts the Garden at a location that is currently underwater. They speculated that the rivers once emptied in the Gulf. As sea levels were rising, the Garden was flooded and eventually put underwater. Hence, "Adam & Eve" had to flee the Garden. That was the gist of the article, and I hope I'm summarizing it accurately for you. Basically, the program put forth that the characters of "Adam & Eve" were pushed out of the Garden by a historical, weather/climate phenomenon. You can look at this as being caused by God or as being explained by the need to attribute such an event to supernatural causes. As I recall, the evidence wasn't definitive, but it was definitely interesting. Hope this helps.
