Q &A for Music and Literature buffs -- The Counterpoint

Counterpoint in my understanding is two or more voices moving independently on one another yet harmoniously makes sense or compatible.

Edward Said has mentioned that principles of counterpoint may be used in literature. How is this possible?

What comes to my mind is the book of Psalms and Proverbs. But it's not acting like a counterpoint. What do you think?
