IŽve had my share of problems with women, and I sure know that it feels like shit. But IŽve also know many, many guys who are excellent at picking up girls by using methods similar to those of the PUA's and guess what? They are just as miserable as those of us who struggle with the laides. In fact, often times more so. Picking up girls seems like just the thing to cheer you up when you aren't getting any, but it's a red herring - it won't make you feel any better about yourself.
Fix the cause, not the symptoms.
There's nothing wrong with that per se. What is wrong is the approach these PUA's take. Their success is transitory, fake and in the long-term bad for your mental health. It doesn't matter if the mask you construct for yourself is shiny, attractive and effective at getting what you want in the short term - just wearing a mask is going to fuck you up royally in the long term. It's simply not a healthy way to live your life. Read Neil Strauss's account of becoming a PUA and youŽll see where getting into this lifestyle leads to in the end. Don't trust the hype from guys like Mystery - he makes a living selling a product, of course he's going to tell you it's awesome.
Whenever you say or do something you for the express purpose of modifying another persons behavior to do something that person would otherwise not want to do and mask your intentions, you are being insincere and a con. If you want to persuade someone, be up front about it.

I like PU ---I dont have any mental health issues, i just want greater success and quality women in my life--- and i wont get tht if i dont approach any girls --and PU helps you to do this--
but I do hate the player type guys, who do PU for all the wrong reasons

"Pick-up artists" seem cheesy and fake. That's not who I want to be, even if some of them lay more chicks in one month than I did in my college career. The ends don't always justify the means, particularly if you have to learn a routine and act in ways that, to me, come across as awkward and insincere.
Also, I wonder how many people suffer from information overload from all the information they learn from these gurus. I would think eventually you are liable to outthink your self to the point where your natural instincts of perceiving chemistry are dulled. That was my thought as I read "The Game" (an interesting read, nonetheless).
I'm married now and the PUA craze did not exist when I was single. I never had a routine, a book, or a guru's teachings to follow. I was no ladies man, but I had my share of fun, and it all came from "being myself" and the ability to recognize chemistry and then go from there.
