When the classes ended I actually studied at the local sports center for 2-3 hours a day, would work out an hour and then grab lunch. After lunch I'd relax, maybe study 2-3 hours, then get dinner. After dinner I'd put in another 2-3 hours at starbucks or barnes&noble.

I took this test back in the end of July and I don't get my results for another couple months. I'll have to kill myself if I failed.
Wow, thats commitment right there. Good luck on the results, i'm sure you will pass if you focused that much.

just make sure you take a break and dont study for a couple of days before the test.

the best option is to plan on finishing your studying about a week out from the test...take a day or two completely off, then just do some light reviewing and overview stuff for a couple of days, then dont study for one day at least before the test or even two.

think about it like youre training for a fight. The worst thing is to overtrain.

I doubt that you've ever sat any difficult exams and passed them with the no study for a few days prior method.

The guy's getting his post-graduate education. This means he did well on at least a couple difficult exams in his life.

But I agree. When I was sitting for the bar exam, which is a three day test, I actually studied at night after the first and second day of the exam. I did this even though the prep course says to just chill. It was really relaxed on the day before and during the exam though. I basically read over outlines while watching TV.

I usually try and study really hard for an exam the weekend before when I have a lot of free time, I will study about 4 hours on a day where I dont have anythihng else pressuring me.

Then 2 or 3 days before the exam I go back and refresh myself over and over again on the same material, but not intensive studying.

Like lets say its a history final

I will go through and read the entire text, highlighting if needed, pausing to udnerstand what I have read, reading back to relate it with things I have read in the past.

Then a few nights before the exam I will just scan over the highlighted areas to refresh the information in my memory.

I find it much easier when I have built a knowledge base, then I can easily refresh the information in my brain with a quick and repeated scan over a couple nights.

consistency is better than extended periods for long term memory. You can study for the same amount each day but it is better if you study over a number of periods rather than two or three sessions.

also better to do the majority of your studies past midday.

doing much better than what I would...always cram, I hate cramming. Always tell myself 'this is the last time', not yet.

edit: oh you are studying maffs, well very generally speaking lower than average male testosterone levels is somewhat correlated with better processing in this domain. Depending on what you perceive your testosterone levels to be at I recommend soy milk in coffee.

just remeber the aforesaid is very very general advice.

lol, whatever you say buddy....I doubt you have ever taken and "difficult" exams.

Im not talking about finals for undergrad or something, bc those are a joke. you can just study/cram the night before and do great. Im talking about a diagnostic type test that for some it is very hard to do better on without long-term effort. This is not just about learning the material, this is about learning the test as well.. if he is going to be studying as hard as he says he is, he would do very well to stop studying a couple of days before and relax so his mind wont be overworked.

maybe youre just not the kind of guy who has overworked his mind ever. and as mens rea said, I just started my second year of law school. For class test, of course you study the night before. but its not to learn something, its to review and remember (and learn some of course).

but a test like OPs is different, and studying so hard for so long will screw you over if you dont regulate and take breaks.
