are you joking? HD-DVD is the same thing as DVD. IN the war of HD-DVD vs. blu-ray, there are about equal proponents and supporters on each side. HD-DVD is just a new way of using existing technology. DVD drives are long reliable since they went through the test of time, and there is more knowledge for how to make a good DVD player. Blu ray isn't.
This matters. Peo[ple take for granted a drive will run and work. I've gotten two generic CD drives my whole life for my coputer and both fell apart after a year. Reliability matters for a fast spinning machine like a disc drive. Blu ray is no exception. When you buy a ps3, you're buying the first blu ray machines. Basically you are paying 600$ to take part of consumer experiment. If (or when) it falls aprt, you report to sony, they gather your misery and your consumer misery ends up being a stastic so future blurays will work better. How's that for food for thought?
BTW HD-DVD add on for xbox is
jsut for movies. HDDVD is just swapping lots of DVD discs to your hdd to compile one gigantic movie file. it's somewhat analogus to any game that uses several DVDs, which is why hd-dvd won't play games since regular dvd games already do this method.
