are you joking? HD-DVD is the same thing as DVD. IN the war of HD-DVD vs. blu-ray, there are about equal proponents and supporters on each side. HD-DVD is just a new way of using existing technology. DVD drives are long reliable since they went through the test of time, and there is more knowledge for how to make a good DVD player. Blu ray isn't.

This matters. Peo[ple take for granted a drive will run and work. I've gotten two generic CD drives my whole life for my coputer and both fell apart after a year. Reliability matters for a fast spinning machine like a disc drive. Blu ray is no exception. When you buy a ps3, you're buying the first blu ray machines. Basically you are paying 600$ to take part of consumer experiment. If (or when) it falls aprt, you report to sony, they gather your misery and your consumer misery ends up being a stastic so future blurays will work better. How's that for food for thought?

BTW HD-DVD add on for xbox is jsut for movies. HDDVD is just swapping lots of DVD discs to your hdd to compile one gigantic movie file. it's somewhat analogus to any game that uses several DVDs, which is why hd-dvd won't play games since regular dvd games already do this method.

I will never pay $600 for a video game console. if they feel all that extra bull squak is really neccessary to play video games, they are delusional. oblivion is massive and has tons of dialouge, that fit perfectly fine on one dvd. you think sony is gonna cram the bluray full of realtime shit? expect alot more cgi again, just like at thier ps3 showings.

a 360 and a wii bests the price of one ps3. after e3 they should really be ashamed of the price they are asking.

$600 for something that will last you 6/7 years, no bs vidoe card upgraes or crap like that.

A Xbox360 is what 100 less and dont expect the price to go down with them adding HD-DVD later on.

Iam not sure how poor you are but well you buy what you can afford.
You're paying extra for a new DVD format that has nothing to do with gaming. Sony is trying to push this new format onto the public and it's bullshit.

The HD-DVD drive will be a separate add-on for around $200, there are no plans to have a 360 model with a built in HD-DVD drive. It won't affect the price at all.

MS are hedging their bets whilst Sony really are relying on people thinking a blu-ray drive is worth the extra $'s. From what I've read, broadly speaking people don't think it is.

Currently I'm planning on getting a Wii on launch if Wario Ware is a launch title and a 360 when the price drops a bit for PGR3 and Fable 2. Someone wake me when the PS3 gets some decent software titles.
