Its like people bragging about how much they can drink and how fucked up they get all the time. It comes with every substance.

I used to smoke, and as a result I do think a lot of the things people say about it are true.
It did
- damage my short term memory
- make me apathetic and lazy
- make me feel tired all the time
- look like I was permanently exhausted
- make me pig out on snacks
- dull my reflexes
- make simple-minded tv and film seem inspired
- make me want to try out higher highs
and it was hard to quit as I had cravings for a while after I stopped.
As such, at the time when people accused it of these things, I had no real rebuttal. It just doesnt effect everyone in the same way, some can smoke it and not have any of these effects. I did though.

When I started smoking it, I smoked it almost every day for about a year and a bit, then I got caught as well.
My parents said they didn't want anything to do with it being on the property etc. but I could smoke it, as long as I wasn't stoned around the family. I quit cold turkey as well, no cravings, no withdraw, notta damn thing.
Two years ago I moved to Alberta and started smoking it again, came back to Nova Scotia, stopped. Moved into an appartment with two people I had known for a while and they smoked it so I figure while I'm living on my own, I might as well, so I did.
I still smoke it, I love playing basketball after taking a toke, and I love being creative when preparing munchies.
We also smoke a blunt every Sunday and tonight we just finished week 17.

Word to that, I can't hang as well as most people I know who smoke, and im not new to it. Its always turned me into a retard, I become a zombie when I smoke, but it helps me for physical activity. I have friends who can study and do homework after smoking, not me, never could.
On the other hand, when I don't smoke im bouncing off the walls from ADD.

I have to disagree with this. MOST(not all) start smoking pot and go through a progression. They start at parties...then move on to weekends...then 3 times a week, 4, 5, then only at nighttime....then it slowly turns into whenever they get the chance. Then they either get caught, interupted, etc.....and stop, or they move out on their own and have no reason to stop and continue for years. For those that never get caught up in the parying scene this does not apply but for those who do this is a very likely scenario. I've seen so many people with great talent ****phorically frozen in time because of this drug. Still the same exact person they were 6 years ago and its sad. Eventually some will quit the harcore smoking and do the occasional toke but in my experience you're either in it or you or out of it. Very little gray area.

I'm going to tell you as an "educated" ex-pot head that it is a total waste of time and it has negative effects on everyone who uses it. Those who are productive on pot would be even more productive without it. Those who can barely get by w/o pot will be total losers if they smoke all the time. Pot absolutely hinders your potential in all aspects of life. If you find yourself defending it it means you are a pot head.
Now before your knee starts to jerk let me say Im not claiming it's worse than alcholol or its the devil. Im not sayin anything other than it is bad for you and childish. Everyone I know who smoked for years and quit laugh at the pot head life style they used to lead. Those who still smoke it defend it much like yourself. It's not a coincidence....it just means you are a pot head and defending it is the number 1 symptom.
Now if you are able to go thru life high then god bless you but most people snap out of it in their mid 20's at the latest. If you are younger than that then enjoy it while it lasts but dont get to caught up in it. Life looks a lot different when you're not looking thru smoke cloud glasses.

The way you describe it, it sounds like you had some bad experiences from pot. Most people don't get addicted and use it sparingly, and some people progress to smoking everyday like you said. So I agree that once you start smoking theres a pretty good chance you'll smoke more frequently (this doesn't really mean you're addicted.) I have pothead friends and they aren't really "frozen in time", my friend goes to an Ivy League school, has all A's, leads a fine social life, and smokes everyday. Sure he may be an exceptional person, but most people can handle themselves with something as minor as weed.
