Playstation 3 vs Xbox 360

I Don't want to get into no childish arguments here fellas,...

I'm looking to pick either one of these up, and I'm simply looking for advice on which to splash the cash on.

Any help ?

Thanks.

Well, I've had both. Both have their advantages. I'd still give the advantage to the 360 for it's availability of games, although supposedly '08 is supposed to be a big year for the PS3. I'd give the overall utility of the system to the PS3. The Blu-ray drive is huge plus. I'm not a consistent gamer; I usually just game in spurts. However I use my Blu-ray drive a lot to watch movies.

So I guess that if you have HD TV and would reap the benefits of a Blu-ray player, I'd go with the PS3.

If you only care about gaming, than I'd look at the available game titles for both systems and go with whatever platform has the most games you like on it. Make sure to look at the upcoming games for '08 as well. You can probably find most of these online or at your local game store.

As far as what system has better gameplay, I THINK that there isn't a heck of a lot of difference. I'm sure other hardcore gamers might have different opinions though.

I was going to go for the 360 until the whole 1/3 of them being defective fiasco, now that blu-ray has won the format war and all the things the PS3 can do and not to mention the quality titles coming out for it this year i'm definetley getting one as soon as i rack up the cash

This thread will not end well.

Get a PS3. Because;

- Very reliable console, no red ring of death to worry about
- Future Proof Blu-Ray player
- Plenty of games to play already, 2008's game line up is very strong
- Wi-Fi out of the box
- Free online with dedicated servers, plus Sony's Home launches this year

COD4 on the PS3 is good times.

No issues at all with mine, great to have. But I can't really argue which is better since I never played the 360 much.

I don't own either and I don't plan to. Most of my gaming takes place on my PC and every once in a while on the Wii. At least I think I can give you some fairly unbiased advice:

If you look at the top 50 games lists to watch for 2008, you'll notice that most titles are coming to both the PS3 and the 360. There's a few exclusives though (like MGS:4, or resistance) thta might tip the scales for you. I'd just have a look at those lists before you make a decision.

Hardware wise, I'd go with a PS3. Blue ray and overall better hardware and no red ring of death.

Games overall probably goes to the 360 at this point though, especially online.

I'd still go with a PS3.

i don't know what the ps3 is like i have never even seen one in the flesh BUT

i don't think i have ever used a worse console than the xbox 360:

even less reliable than the xbox

very time consuming to do anything with the window menu's of the 360, everything takes soooo long.

it will play a game for a while and then suddenly say the disc is unreadable which is ridiculous

it scratches discs (see above)

a very frustrating console to use.

my ps2 takes untold abuse and has never missed a beat, feels like it will last forever. i know i can't base the ps3 on that but it CANNOT be worse than the 360.

my brother has had to replace his 360 once already and has to exchange it again already when he has the time, it keeps messing up his saves, crashing and scratching discs.

You buy a console to play both games online and offline.

X360 has without a doubt a superiro online service, it's no suprise since MS has been in the software and hardware market for over 20 years.

Now let's talk about the games, because X360 has been out longer and is easier to develop for, they have the best next gen game library.

Here's a list of games tht are already out:

Now many thought that the PS3's 2008 lineup of games would be better than the X360s, but after this weeks Game Developers Conference, this is no longer the case.

Sony has stated that these games SHOULD come out this year, but no release dates have been confirmed:

Killzone 2
Resistance 2
****l Gear Solid - there was a recent rumor that it will be released in Japan in Dec., if true the US and EU will not get this game until earlt 2009
Gran Turismo
Little Big Planet
Tekken 6

MS has CONFIRMED these games:

Ninja Gaiden 2 - June
Gate Crashers (from the creators of Alien Homid) on XBL - summer
GTA 4: Episode 1 - August
Gears of War 2 - Nov.

Plus you have these games on the 2008 schedule:

Halo Wars
Banjo 3
Alan Wake
Too Human
Huxley
Left 4 Dead
Fable 2
Splinter Cell: Conviction

Plus more announcements at E3, TGS and Leipzeg.

Make your choice by using the games first, whatever you think is important second.
