Photoshop Help

Can anyone walk me through the process of layering through PHotoshop? I wanted to make some 2D Gifs, which from what I understand can be done through the Photoshop application of layering.

I was tinkinering around with it but didn't have any luck.

Layers are like transparent sheets which you can paint on. You can divide an image up into an infinite number of layers, with one or more elements isolated on each layer and therefore easily editable.

To create a new layer, just open the layer tab in the toolbar and click 'new', or hit the small 'create new layer' button in the layers pallette which should be in the lower right corner. To copy the selected layer just hit ctrl+J.

If you've got the bandwidth I recommend acquiring the Lynda.com video tutorials for PS. You can know your way around the features in half an hour.

Thanks for the post.

So first I load a gif into the software, then click new, which will give me a new layer. But how do I make the two images work together, like an animated gif?

Also I'm on a mac...

Making animations/gifs is a lot easier to do in Image Ready... Often times photoshop and ImageReady will come in a package. There's also the option of flattening the layers in photoshop if you don't have ImageReady.

Yeah I seem to be getting the hang of it... thanks for the above posts/links... I've figured Image Ready, now I just need to make some time to start animating..
