It's not stupid. The debate was whether the bad guy won or not. He did, regardless of whether or not he changes his stripes later, the bad guy won the end of the movie superbrawl. Ghost in the Shell was pretty damn good though.

The bad guy won the fight from a superficial perspective. But the Fists always fight to the death and Ken and Roah even talked about how they’re trying to kill each other throughout the whole fight. But guess what; before the fight even ended (i.e. Roah dealing the deathblow) he turned into a good guy! The fight wasn’t even finished to the point they intended because Roah showed mercy and compassion. That’s the point of the ending, peace must win over war…after all; it was the warlike nature of human beings that fucked up the planet in the first place. It was a lose for Ken, but if you look at it more deeply, it was almost like a messianic sacrifice because Roah’s change of heart was a win for humanity and the planet.

In the original Japanese one...I think it was more like a draw. The English version had a different ending I believe.

the point being...that to save a dying planet, and a dying human race...more killing is not the solution. the solution is hippie shit like love, peace, mercy, healing, etc... basically all the stuff that an uber-masculine-tyrannosaurus like me hates (j/k)
Raoh turning good by showing compassion meant hope for the future, therefore is a win for the good guys

I'm not arguing any of that. My only point of contention is that the fight was done before Raoh has a clash of conscience. Kenshiro was out. Besides that, my point was that in 99% of movies, Raoh loses that fight for the dramatic come from behind hero wins ending. It didn't happen in Fist and that's made for a cool and unique ending.
