Interesting to see the divorce laws where you live so feel free to answer the below:

1) What are the divorce laws where you live (country, state etc)?

Australia.

Basically divorce is no fault. All that you require is 12 months separation to commence proceedings.

Property is settled by pooling all assets then dividing based on contributions to marriage (financial like income and non financial like home making and supporting income provider) plus other factors (a homemaker would get more as they have less chance of earning an income due to not training).

Generally 60 (women) to 40 (men) no matter what.

2) Child support?

Generally 18% of person's wage without custody goes to person with custody until children reach 18.

3) Experiences/war stories

Helping friend with his. He worked and made a fortune. Let the wife (homemaker) handle all the money. They bought 4 investment houses and put it in her name for tax reasons. She then slept with his friend and left with him taking the houses. Now wants 70% of what is left. She lives with his friend now and the friend pays her rent, expenses and pays all the children's expenses.

and yes before anyone says it,
he was silly to put it in her name but he figured he had to AT LEAST trust his wife.

Plus it gave them more money for the family to have it in her name (less tax).

He did not involve himself in finances as he was just working away THINKING he was providing for the family. No providing for HER.

Seems like she shouldn't get all of the houses. If the assets are divided (roughly) equally, the houses will be split. If the houses are in her name, they become income for her, and thus assets to be split in divorce.

The wife and the friend should both also be tortured and killed, but that's for another thread.

yeah exactly. But what about the laws where everyone lives?

Must be tough to start again. Any stories of divorced dudes who have started again. One guy at my office has and is a millionaire again.

Texas it takes two months from the time you file.

It's no contest so you can basically file and have it taken care of regardless if your spouse wants to stay together or not.

As long as you don't have to fight out custody or who get's what it's just a matter of paper work.
