Moving Advice?
Wondering if anyone has advice for a cross country move. I'm moving to Vegas from Buffalo, NY this summer with my girlfriend. Some people say it's better to take a trailer, others say a uhaul and tow the car. We dont have much to move (only big stuff is 2 beds, couch, 2 dressers, desk and table). I want to just buy stuff out there.
Anyone have any advice for the trip?
Is it cheaper to buy new stuff rather than move the old stuff?
Any advice would be a huge help, thanks.
Paul

I tried to rent a u-haul trailer when I was moving. The U-haul place told me I could not rent one because I had an Explorer.

I've never moved across country, but I would assume it's easier to bring your old stuff and pay a couple hunderd. Instead of buying completely new furniture. Like i said though I've never moved across country...

U-haul is better than a mover,
do not get movers those people are CUTTHROAT people as bad as
car dealerships and Towtruck people some of the most saddest
people in the universe.
U-haul can be dangerous though....
I'd say even if it costs money just buy a new bed and furniture out there don't haul it.
I went from Texas to Florida and then after a year back.

DO NOT RENT U-HAUL!!!
I had one of the most frustrating experiences in my life thanks to them. I reserved a truck a full month in advance, even calling them periodically to confirm my reservation. They said it wouldn't be a problem and that they would call the day before the move and let me know which location my truck would be at. I worked until 9 that night, got home, and guess what? No message. I tried calling their regional office and they were out until 8 the next morning.
At 8 I called and found my trucks location, but that specific location didn't open until 9. I call at 9 to let them know I would be in to pick up the truck, no answer. 9:15, no answer. 9:30, no answer. Finally get through at 9:45 and give them my name and reservation #. The yokel on the other end, says "Uh, it appears we reserved the truck for 2 different people, and the other guy just called to confirm the truck. Sorry." I was so unbelievably pissed, I was ready to go and rip this guy a new asshole. How do you fuck up a reservation made a fucking month in advance?
So here I am, a little over 2 hours before I have to be moved out of my apartment, and I have no fucking truck. Luckily the U-Haul down the street from my apartment happened to have a 10 foot, but I had originally reserved a 15 foot. This meant I had to make 2 trips. Also, they said I could only have the truck for 3 hours, but making 2 trips it took me almost 4. So guess what they did? Charged me double everything. Double rental, double insurance, double mileage. That day, U-Haul joined Wal-Mart on my permanent shit list, and I will preach this to anyone that will listen.
