Movies Misrated
Which movies do you think were either ripped off by the critics or given unjustified praise. The first ones that come to mind are The Shawshank Redemption and Tombstone. Both were given 3 stars and I think they deserved 4. On the other hand Crash was given 4 stars and I think it really deserves 3. What are your thoughts?

Shawshank and Tombstone are both decent genre movies. By no means do they deserve 4 stars. There's more scene chewing in Tombstone than at an Al Pacino look alike contest.
Fight Club and Panic Room were overlooked due to violent content and political correctness.

The original Night of the Living Dead was torn to pieces by Roger Ebert so bad he actually had to go back and re-review it 40 years later.

actually i would pick the shawshank redemption and tombstone ot be two of the most overrated movies of all time, and for so many reasons it's hard to go into. when you truly get movies, you don't need to explain. it's an intuitive genre.

Specifically, with Shawshank what is overrated about it?

I thought you were talking about when you rent a PG-13 movie and they're dropping the F-bomb far more than expected, or having several border-line softcore scenes. Or more commonly, when you get a rated R movie and you're like, "Where are the boobies and profanity? This is kid's stuff!"

Didn't Shawshank win Best Picture? I could very easily be wrong about this, but I thought it was an award winning film.

Overrated:
Shakespear In Love somehow won Best Picture.
Anything Bill Murray has done in a long time(Lost In Translation, Broken Flowers, etc.)
Anything by M. Night Shamylan(or however you spell it.)
All the stupid chick flicks.
Underrated:
Sin City
Fight Club
Total Recall, T2: Judgement Day, True Lies, Commando- WAR GOVERNATOR
Billy Madison
