You can't do a legitimate Mortal Kombat vs Capcom/Street Fighter game without altering one of the series' fighting engines to mesh with the other which, at that point, stops being that series.

The story is based on a magical portal opening which threatens to destroy the MK Earth/Outworld as well as the DC Universe so the champions of each realm fight for the right to save/rule their respective world. In DC comics magic is one of the universal weaknesses a lot of characters have, including Superman, which is why they went with that as the storyline. It's an odd fit but it is at least close to the rules DC have set up. If they are fighting in Outworld or Outworld is merging with the DC universe, Flash's connection to the speed force might be weaker. Then there is the other thing about Scorpion be a damned undead ninja who breathes fire which could be considered supernatural/magical.

Not necessarily. Capcom vs SNK gave the player the option to choose which "groove" they wanted to use. Basically prior to battle, you would choose if you want Capcom style or Mortal Kombat style. Not easy to do, and could be butchered, but not impossible.

Yeah, you're right: Mortal Kombat and DC were based in such reality before this abomination. What were they thinking!

The problem is that the fighting engines aren't even close to being similar.

Well yeah but there was another kicker - SNK also released SNK vs. Capcom Chaos, so there was Capcom vs. SNK that Capcom did and then a year or so later SNK vs. Capcom Chaos came out, haha. Both were somewhat more tweaked to their prospective engines of course.

How can you justify having Superman fight some random mortal combat person. Superman would so beast that.
More interesting, DBZ vs DC.
