Icon13 Mexican Food

am i the only one disappointed with Mexican food in the US, honestly its the same regional style of cooking. Ive had Mexican food from Texas(not TexMex) and California, the only difference is that Mexican food in California contains less grease. Theres a new concept called
'Alta Cocina' which isnt exclusive to the Mexican cuisine. Its basically Mexican food thats pretty, expensive, with small portions. IMO its a fad because Americans are accustomed to good cheap Mexican food.

I hope restaurateurs will explore the dishes from the east, central, south, and even the pre-Hispanic dishes.

Come to (and you may not choose to believe this) Milwaukee.

I'll point ya to half-a-dozen very kick ass joints.
(we're talking everything from rib sticking plate lunches to a nice mole)

yes i hate the "american mexican food" the tacos here give me the runs, the burritos do the same i guess their made from some cheap dog meat. if im eating mexican i go to green burrito at carls jr. they can afford the good dog meat.

I love mexican food, it the only time I wish I had two stomachs so I could eat more. Its also the only time I think about heaving up what I just ate so I can eat more, just like the Romans.

I love Mexican food, I could eat it every day no problem and still look forward to each meal. In the US I tried to get to a different Mexican joint every day for the 2 weeks I was there recently, spot on. Even the chains are good, chipotle was a hit, not as good as a restaurant but for $6.50 you can get a good feed, much much better than any other chain (barring maybe Wendys).

Having been to Mexico, being subject to my family's homecooking (who are Mexican), I feel confident- if not stating the obvious- in saying that Mexican food in Texas stacks up against some of the best even in Mexico (with some 'population overlap why wouldn't it?). It's just a matter of knowing where to look.

Like when I went to London I found pizza as good there as any in Rome. Then again either a) I got lucky or b) I don't know what the fuck I'm talking about.
