Well, as per the OP, this thread is about people making a fuss about marijuana being illegal. Sounds like people really need this stuff based on the replies. If it's not that important, why are so many people furious that it's prohibited?

I was leaning towards that fact that I'm sure people can have fun without it, but that's not the way people react about it. If the government outlawed peanut butter do you think people would throw a fit about that like they do about marijuana?

Dude, its just something fun to do. Congratulations, you don't smoke. But a lot of people do. Not because things are missing from their lives, because of the simple fact that they like to get high. Its like a hobby. Fishing, hunting, training, watching football, they are all hobbies of mine, and I do/watch them because they provide enjoyment. Weed is no different. And just so you know, I don't even smoke anymore because I'm training for my first fight, but I definately never smoked because something was missing from my life, I just enjoyed the feeling that marijuana provided.

I understand what you're saying, and maybe people wouldn't care if peanut butter was outlawed. I for one would, because I really like peanut butter sandwiches, and there would be no logical reason for preventing people from eating peanut butter. Sure, too much peanut butter can make you fat, but maybe I don't mind being a little chunky.

Yeah I love PB too, but I think people take for granted the leisure lives they lead. You can't always get what you want.

My point was that if it's "just a hobby" and some people "just like to get high" then there would be nowhere near the amount of illegal activity surrounding marijuana, nor would there be so much bitching about it. I'm alluding to the fact that people are going overboard over something that isn't even a fundamental necessity. Smoking weed should be the last thing people should be fighting over imo.

People think marijuana should be legal because its effects are not that bad. It calms people down, and a lot of the times they go just to sleep. And its never actually been proven that there are actually side effects. It annoys people that its illegal because people high on marijuana don't act like assholes or start fights. Or stumble around the house and break shit, and people have died of alcohol poisoning and liver disease, which are proven causes of overuse of alcohol, yet there are no PROVEN deaths from marijuana. All of the bad things point toward alcohol, but its weed that gets the terrible reputation.

And yes, people would throw the same kind of fit if peanut butter. You know why? "The same reason, people would say there is nothing wrong with it so why the fuck shouldn't it be legal? Its absolutely retarded that I can't eat peanut butter, because i like it and its my choice whether I use it, and it doesn't effect anybody else." Look at the part in quotations, Switch "peanut butter" with "marijuana", and you have, to the exact word, why in my opinion marijuana should be legal.

Other than food, shelter, and clothing, what is a fundamental necissity? So if you've ever bitched about ANYTHING other than THE MOST BASIC forms of food, shelter and clothing, just enough to get by and nothing more, then you have just made a terrible argument.

Trafficking should remain illegal. A person should, however, be able to grow a few plants for personal use.

When I was in high school it was much easier to get pot than beer. Drug dealers dont check IDs.
