NIN seems overrated

I've been hearing about this band for years but never really took the time to give them a shot. I mean, I like "closer" but who doesn't, right?

So I created a NIN pandora channel and I'm listening to it now. But surprisingly, almost every NIN song that comes on I end up giving the thumbs down. They're playing a lot of other good music from Marilyn Manson, Prodigy, and some other bands though.

So what's the big deal about this band? Overrated?

With Teeth is his best album. More somber with a very consistent tone and and great beats. Brings out the emo in all of us.

Trent Reznor lost it a while ago. I haven't liked anything he's done after Downward Spiral.

NIN is Trent Reznor. Live band is constantly changing and even if someone helps TR in the studio it's more often than not a temp job.

The main record block that defines this band is, for most fans, the early work (Pretty Hate Machine, Broken, The Downward Spiral, The Fragile and assorted singles, shorter editions and remixes. If you want to make up your mind on Nine Inch Nails, you should start with these four.

Not a big fan. In my freshman year of college my strength coach used to play NIN all the time during our 6 AM workouts and it was just killed for me. It was like grinding teeth, couldn't stand it the first time and it only got worse...and I like a lot of bands that are considered similar. I think its just because I'm not a fan of Reznor's voice.

NIN are great. I've seen them 3 times in concert. You cant just go by a few songs to judge the band.

Go buy their live dvd...you'd be very impressed. Might actually wanna show some of your friends.

The Fragile is my fav NIN record. It's not music for everyone. Trent uses a lot of strange noises and dissonant sounds. I don't think they're overrated at all, but it is music that many people would find unbearable. Also, NIN is mainly about good records. It's better to listen to a whole album rather than some singles here and there.
