Hey, I lurk around here a lot, specifically this forum. You guys talk about women... well a lot. I don't blame you, it can be fucking confusing.
Do yourself a favor, and pick up the book
The Female Brain. It's a layman's introduction to female behavior by studying it through the lens of clinical, neurobiological and evolutionary psychology. The author is actually a woman, and although she does a little bit of guy bashing in the book, it is generally unbiased and is still really well worth it. I've been a hobbyist of psychology for about 8 or so years now, and this is up there with one of the most interesting reads I've had. She uses real stories to highlight the behaviors she talks about, talks about their causes both neurologically and evolutionarily. The book is setup from pre-natal life to death, and reads chronologically. It starts off explaining how the brain develops in women early on, when certain behaviors kick in and why.
She shares some less than flattering statistics about female behavior (and flattering), here's some examples.
10% of all children in the U.S. are raised by a father who isn't their's and don't know that it isn't their's. This means that 10% of women knowingly have another man's child and don't tell him or the man who raises the child that.
In a study that can be related, when females ovulate (are their most fertile) they seek out (are most attracted to) selfish, good looking, physical specimens of men to have sex with. Afterwards, when they are not fertile, they seek out the type of men who have qualities that would make them good husbands and child-rearers (generosity, intelligence, tact, etc.) and they disregard appearance more often.
In a study that can be related to the former one, women are much much more likely to orgasm with a man who has a symmetrical face. Also, when a woman orgasms, her chances of becoming pregnant raise dramatically as the contractions actually serve to suck up semen. Women are also more likely to orgasm when they are ovulating.
There's a bunch of interesting little tidbits like that. But the most important thing I got out of the book- women are a lot simpler to understand than a person might think. It lays out female desires, emotions, social ability, language ability and how they all change throughout life in a way that any person can understand. Read it - hopefully you will be a little less confused.
