I wonder why they added that to the lie and who the two who survived but died later are supposed to be?
I think he simply did it to help build up a better case for Kate, as he was lying through his teeth about her in order to make her seem like something she was not.

I think that the reason there are only 6 is because there's not a way to get more than that off the island, so they have to choose. The rest of the people are still back on the island, and that's why Jack's freaking out about going back (because they just left them all behind).

It's one of two reasons, if not both:

1) Jack's got some daddy issues and might be afraid of being the type of father to Aaron that his father was to him.

2) There's some sort of tragedy tied to Aaron's survival (something happening to Claire, his sister, which he'll find out eventually) and Aaron is one big, fat reminder to Jack of some way he failed.

#2 sounds plausible, but aaron is his nephew after all.

I unfortunately read the answer to this question a few weeks ago at a Lost fan site. I'll save you the spoiler, but something screwy happens in the near future, and that's why Jack is very hesitant about seeing Aaron.

What are your theories on the what Daniel Faraday and Charlotte were doing with the deck of cards: testing for new psychic abilities, maybe Dan has early on-set alzheimers's, or Charlotte is trying to see if someone can retain certian memories be fore arriving to the Island. We know Dan was a physics professor who later needed a caretaker.

His story may be patterned after the real Michael Faraday who suffered from mental illness that effected is memory. By the late 1850s his memory was so poor that he could only perform short experiments and was unable to argue his theories effectively. He gave up lecturing in 1861 and retired in 1865 to live in a house provided by the Queen.

It would be crazy for sure, but I just really doubt he's one of the 6. There's just so many more reasons for him to stay put than to occupy one of the spots to leave.
