The way I heard it, that video was commissioned by Channel 4 (UK) and they paid for fashion photographer David La Chappelle to shoot it. Cost several million dollars and it was only a promo.

I thought it looked like a load of wank and didn't start watching it as a result until about a year after it first aired in the UK.
