That's not always a bad thing, I'm sure some of the best actors on the planet aren't in the spotlight. And Lost does have some great actors in the cast.

You claimed that you had written off the show before filming began because you weren't cast as boon. You claimed that it was not only due to the fact that you weren't cast in the roll, but also because the actors were nobodies. At the supposed time that you weren't cast for that roll, Michael Keaton would have been part of the cast.

Well besides not being cast in it, the early write-ups and previews for Lost looked pretty cheesy to me. I just didn't see how it would unfold and succeed. And everyone was hyped about it because of J.J. Abrams, but I've never been a fan of any of his work with the exception of Lost.

And when one is auditioning for roles, especially with a tv pilot, you don't know, nor is it shared with you, what known actors are auditioning or being considered for other roles. So back in '03 I didn't know that Keaton was up for a role, nor would it have really impacted me honestly. Like Magooglie stated, Mr. Mom's been off the radar and hasn't done anything worth a flip in a while.

The only actor with any real momentum going into the first season of Lost was Merry the Hobbit.

This was is first role after Lord of the Rings trilogy had wrapped.

I knew who Matthew Fox was and I had seen Locke in losts of stuff, but he was always a bit player.

I like the fact that they are all relative unknowns. It makes the story more engrossing. I'm not star struck.

Yeah, that was funny seeing Charlie go from a hobbit to a junkie. And I had no clue who Matthew Fox was before the show, and the only thing that really stood out to me about Locke was him being Luke Wilson's boss in Old School. And I remembered Bernard from all his little acting gigs over the years. And I dated a girl years back that always watched that Becker tv show, and I remembered Hurley from that.

But like DrSD said, it makes the story more engrossing since the actors aren't stand-out stars.

Here a couple of interesting notes about last weeks episode from the Houston Chronicle Blog:

Date Discrepancies

Quote:
Lost note #2: But here's the thing about Buddy Holly: he didn't record "Everyday" until 1957. And in "Further Instructions," Locke gives a police officer his drivers license and gun permit, what's interesting is that the gun permit says he is born in 1947, but his license reads 5/30/1956. The point in "Further Instructions" was that Locke was being set up from the very beginning by the cops, but it still leaves us with this 1956/1957 discrepancy. Which, on the heels of the date discrepancy from last week with Jack's flash forwards and the newspapers ... well, my head is beginning to hurt. One date discrepancy might be a continuity error, twice in a row starts smelling a little funny.
Everyone in Lost is a bad driver:

Quote:
Lost note #3: Another car accident. These car accidents are seeming less and less coincidental to me: Michael is hit by a car, Sarah and Shannon's father Adam Rutherford are in a car accident, Kate is in multiple car accidents, Jack causes a car accident when he tries to kill himself, Juliet's ex-husband Edmund is hit by a bus, the woman who ends Christian's career was in a car accident, Martha Toomey was in a car accident when she lost her leg, Claire is driving the car when she has an accident and her mother goes into a coma, Anthony Cooper is brought to the island after being in a car accident, Michael tries to kill himself unsuccessfully in a car accident and Hurley is in a car crash as he's being chased by the cops. Oh, and Locke is hit by a car, and unharmed when he is reunited with his mother.
Book of Law and Locke's Test:

Quote:
A quick note about the test that Batmanuel! gives Little Locke with the items that belong to Little Locke already: this is modeled after a test that is given to determine the next Dali Lama. Litttle Locke passes over the childish things: the baseball glove and the comic book, in favor of some strange items. And Batmanuel! becomes upset when Little Locke chooses the knife rather than the Book of Law. Some of you had some very interesting comments about the Book of Law and its significance. However, the term "book of law" is rather broad, and as such there are a number of books of law, including one that was mentioned by Mr. Eko in What Kate Did:

LOCKE: Hello again.

EKO: Hello. I have something I think you should see. If you don't mind, I will begin at the beginning. Long before Christ the king of Judah was a man named Josiah.

LOCKE: Boy when you say beginning, you mean beginning.

EKO: At that time the temple where the people worshipped was in ruin. And so the people worshipped idols, false gods. And so the kingdom was in disarray. Josiah, since he was a good king, sent his secretary to the treasury and said: "We must rebuild the temple. Give all of the gold to the workers so that this will be done." But when the secretary returned, he had no gold. And when Josiah asked why this was the secretary replied, "We found a book." Do you know this story?

LOCKE: No, I'm afraid I don't.

EKO: What the secretary had found was an ancient book -- the Book of Law. You may know it as the Old Testament. And it was with that ancient book, not with the gold, that Josiah rebuilt the temple. On the other side of the island we found a place much like this, and in this place we found a book. [Eko unwraps the book and pushes it toward Locke] I believe what's inside there will be of great value to you.

And parts of me thought it'd just end up being cheesy and a Survivor-ish ripoff. And since most of the actors were unknowns, that made me doubt it at first too.

But the interest was still there, so I ended up watching the first episode and really liking it, and have been a fan since. That whole first season, I was a kind of a bitter fan, but over time the show really won me over.
Was it easier to like the show after they killed off Boone?

Evangeline Lilly wasn't unknown. She starred in a phone sex commercial:
