Mendelssohn was the real classical prodigy IMHO. Mozart composed a number of things when he was a child/young, but they were all garbage. Mendelssohn composed string symphonies between the ages of 12 to 14 that are still part of the repertoire, classic works. It took Mozart substantially longer to begin composing at a top level.

One of my best friends growing up graduated as a veldictorian 2 years ahead of our class and was taking mostly college classes while still in 10th grade. She is a virtuoso musician too, composes music for orchestras, and is gifted with languages. She is a perfectionist though, so that has held her back somewhat.

I am going to her graduation today actually. Her master's thesis is 700 pages long and took her at least 3 years to write. Did I mention she is a perfectionist?

Wilfred Benitez

BTW, Wilfred became the youngest boxing champion (beating an experienced hall of fame caliber fighter) at the tender age of 17.

he's probably been mentioned.. but tony royster jr is the shit. he was coached by dennis chambers, who imo is one of the best drummers alive. he has such amazing grooves and chops that a drummer with 40 years on him doesnt have the same ability

i guess some might say he's "wasted" talent because he isnt in any popular bands (he does have his own groups). but he's probably one of the highest paid drummers around. the dude tours with a lot of hiphop acts like jay-z, does studio work, and im sure the endorsements dont hurt

here he is at 12:

Nice, I was in the same boat. Not at 5, more around 7. Now I'll mess up chop-sticks if I try and play. I can still do the 5 key sound from Close Encounters, that's about it.
