Hey all, anyone have any experience in repairing laptops?

My backlight has just died on me, but im not sure whether it is the backlight, or the inverter.

Any idea of how to fix it without paying too much?

Happened to me a while ago.. the lights can be expensive depending on the model; I had to get mine imported from Europe (was a Fujitsu model). I found a guide when I was investigating my situation AT the time, detailing how to do it yourself... what brand ??

Its an oldish Acer travelmate 630. Im from Europe, so import shouldnt be an issue.

The reason im interested in the DIY is obviously because it is cheap, and also i've read on sites like: http://www.laptoprepair101.com/lapto...reen-inverter/

that is isnt as difficult as the laptop repair centers would have you imagine.

Are you sure its the backlight and not the LCD invterter? What are the symptoms? My LCD screen went out on my HP laptop and I did some research and found that the backlight was going to be around $250 for me to fix and the LCD inverter was going to be around $20.00 for me to fix. The symptoms of each having a problem were close to the same (dim screen, image barely visible), and I couldn't decide which one was the correct fix for the problem. I decided to try the LCD Inverter first because it was $20 and I would hope it worked. I purchased the LCD Inverter from ebay plugged it in the day it arrived and it worked just fine.

I'd definitely do it yourself. I called a few laptop repair companies and they wanted hundreds of dollars to fix the LCD Inverter and around $500 to fix the backlight.

If yours is available on EBAY, I'd purchase the LCD Inverter and give that a try. You should be able to do it yourself.
