I would wait to see if Blu-Ray makes it. I hope it does since the storage is increased by quite a bit, but that doesn't mean it's going to survive.
It should though considering it's being backed by quite a few companies, Microsoft may be one of them eventually.

because it's currently being backed by significantly more companies than HD-DVD.. having many benefits and a significantly greater storage capacity than HD-DVD... oh wait your opinion couldn't have anything to do with the fact that you own and invested in soon to be HD-DVD device... x360.
blu-ray > hd dvd

I don't own any hd-dvd devices, and if I did, it would be because I thought they would likely be the successor to the DVD. I think most people usually like the technology then purchase the product, not the other way around.
I base my opinion, and the opinion of many, on several things. First, HD DVDs are cheap to make. High capacity blu-rays are not cost effective. A 30 GB dual-layer HD DVD (which is the standard) is cheaper to make than a 25 GB single-layer blu-ray. No need to mention the much more expensive dual-layer blu-ray. Second, eventhough blu-ray has a SLIGHT storage size advantage, most have not current needs for such large storage. Even if it was cost effective, a 50GB dual-layer blu-ray = 6 movies in high def. Why would you need that much unusable space on a disc? If you do, there is an upcoming 45GB triple layer HD DVD. Third, hd dvd has more exclusive industry support. There are dozens of companies and large studios that are choosing HD DVD over blu-rays. Blu-ray has some supporters too of course, but hardly any exclusives.

If you want to keep adding layers, there is an eight layer BD that stores 200gb (not kidding).
Price isn't really an issue, look at the price that DVD's came out with, they were even more expensive to manufacture... now look where they have gone.
BD has more supporters than HD for the record.

Says who?? It's the main reason companies and consumers will choose hd dvds. Sony and Panasonic are selling blank blue-ray 25GB disks for $20 a piece and 50GB for $60. Who is going to pay that when HD DVD discs will cost only slightly more than current DVDs (dual layers cost $10). You can get a $20 25GB blu-ray, or a $10 30GB HD DVD. Not to mention hd dvd players are half the price. The only hope blu-ray has of succeeding is the PS3. If the PS3 fails, which I say is very possible, blu-ray will fail with it.
