I don't feel he does. He's not imposing, he's not sympathetic (that can be attributed to his lack of any acting ability), and he's only funny in the sense that it's funny how so many people think he's so great.
His best film in terms of fighting, story, and acting is
Rumble in the Bronx. I have to give him credit for that because that's a solid film.
Like I said: I respect him as a stunt man (everybody, fan or not, should check out that documentary of his "My Stunts") but his fight scenes are dumb, his films are weak (
The Tuxedo? Give me a break), and he's a terrible actor, so bad that it detracts from the story. He ruins any and all punchlines and it's impossible to take him seriously in the least.

He's not funny. He's a terrible actor and he's never had a punchline succeed.
As for his fight scenes: I don't want "fun" fight scenes. I want fight scenes. I hate watching him hopping around and doing somersaults and flipping furniture and doing all of that stupid shit. If stuff like that is mixed in with serious fighting (e.g. the apartment fight in
Rapid Fire) then I can tolerate it, but THAT'S ALL HE DOES.

I'm comparing his fight scenes to those done by other martial artists. You watch the fight scenes in Bruce Lee movies, Jet Li movies, Brandon Lee movies, Steven Seagal movies, hell even JCVD movies and they're much better.
And for the record: Arnold versus the Predator>Any Jackie Chan fight.

He takes himself seriously because he generally plays serious characters in serious films. He doesn't need compound his idiocy by making a mockery of himself and his martial arts the way Jackie Chan does.
Jackie Chan wishes he could've done something as great as the Once Upon a Time in China trilogy or
Kiss of the Dragon. It's a good thing he refused the bad guy part in
Lethal Weapon 4 and we got to have the better actor and the better martial arts star in Jet Li play the role.
