It's Mother's Day

And I haven't spoken to my own mother in almost 2 years. Basically we had a pretty ugly falling out last Christmas after a few years of her pressuring me to disown my father, Ultimately after all those years I had to make the choice to distance myself from her for my own good. We grew apart when she moved away and it seemed that whenever I tried to talk to her she would just bring up my dad and tell me how horrible he was and that I should stay away from him. As a 25 year old man I could see through all the lies that she grew accustomed to telling me as a child. I made the decision for myself.

Still, on days like this I feel guilty for not feeling guilty. But during the shit storm a few years ago, a VERY close friend of mine told me "buddy, at some point you're gonna have to take care of yourself." Hard words to accept for a self proclaimed "mama's boy" but something I truly had to do or else.

Anyways, sorry for the rant.

That sounds like a pretty rough situation man. I hope things work out for the best.

Like I said, if I sat you down and gave you the details you'd understand more. In situations like this it's tough not to single yourself out when in reality a lot of people are estranged from their parent(s).

that sucks man, i wish you all the best...but since youve created distance, you have nothing to lose by reaching out to her. just a friendly note to say hi, or whatever. you dont have to become close to her, but she is your mother after all. you wont regret it.

Yeah I hear ya. I just don't feel ready yet. I still send her mother's day gifts, x-mas gifts and birthday gifts. Soon I will reach out again, I'll just set up some ground rules this time around.

That sounds like a good idea (setting ground rules)

Good for you for having the courage to make an extremely difficult decision. Maybe somewhere down the road your paths will cross again. Best of luck to you.

My sympathies also. I had the same situation, except it was my father who wanted me to not talk to my mother. I havent spoken to my dad in 5 years, and I doubt I'll ever speak to him again. I do feel guilty aswell, but there's only so much a person can do in these situations. It is up to your mother to meet you halfway.
