Internet Problems (video watching)

OK maybe some of you more technical guys can help. I keep going to youtube trying to watch a video, and i get the same thing for every one, it says:

Hello, you either have ********** turned off or an old version of Adobe's Flash Player. Get the latest Flash player.

Now ive downloaded the flash player.,....and then again. Nothing. Then i went into the java web site to see if i turned it off (which i never did) and i couldn't find anything. Someone wanna help me out!

What version does it say when you go to the link below? Also, people might be able to help better if you say what browser you're using.

got the same problem a while ago
you need to uninstall flash and reinstall it

but to do this, you'll need to download the flash uninstaller utility then run it

available here:

Can you view embedded videos like the one below or do you just have trouble with the youtube site?

*edit

Also see the link below for making sure your javascr1pt isn't turned off:

http://www.google.com/support/youtub...69&topic=10563

*edit again

And also try the generic advice of clearing cache and cookies. Sometimes that actually helps.

Found a useful thread with a few more ideas in it:

The last few posts point to this announcement from YouTube:

SYSTEM ALERT: Error: ********** turned off or an old version of Macromedia's Flash Player.

Users with ad-blocking software enabled may not be able to see videos due to a conflict with our flash detection code and may see this error; "Hello, you either have ********** turned off or an old version of Macromedia's Flash Player. Get the latest Flash player." Our engineers are working on resolving this issue as quickly as possible. In the mean time, you may want to temporarily disable ad-blocking in your browser or security software.

Had to reform the URL's because the filter was removing javascr1pt from them

I had the same problem.

If you check the free application thread (sticky) there is a very good flash player listed.

The summary:

VLC Media Player - The best Video player on the internet period. You can do just about everything, watch just about every video and even rip Flash movies from the internet. It's a small download, very fast and doesn't waste your time, space or CPU with a bulky UI. You can even toss a DVD into your PC and stream it for everybody on your network. It really is the full package for free.

I got rid of adobe, and used this one instead and I have had no problems whatsoever.

If Java ****** is the problem, you can enable it from the following:

1) Go to tools
2) Internet options
3) Security tab
4) Make sure internet globe is highlighted
5) Click Custom level
6) Scroll towards the bottom and you will find "active scripting"
7) Click enable if it is disabled.
